Since Clueless Fan said he wasn't making a thread for this game, I'll make one. It's our 2nd (and last) non-D1 opponent of the year. Game 8: Hiwassee @ Mercer Time: 7:00PM at Hawkins Arena Broadcast: ESPN3 | www.espn3.comRadio: 97.3FM The Bull Icons | iheart radio: www.iheart.com/live/965-the-bull-3252/?autoplay=trueOpponent: Hiwassee College Mascot: Tigers Location: Madisonville, Tennessee Students: 386 Athletic Affiliation: National Christian College Athletic Association They list an astonishing 27 players on their 2015-16 roster. That's 7% of the student body on the basketball team. Only 10 players have numbers assigned to them, so I'm unsure in the other 17 players roles. Their website doesn't offer much information on conference affiliation (I had to dig on the internet to find it). Western Carolina played them on November 24 and beat them 88-63.

Just having some fun with the pictures.
From what I have read Hiwassee College has managed to save itself from being shut down when the junior college model no longer was viable. It has focused on niche four year degree programs. And for that, it should be commended.
However, MU should not be playing HC. Nor should UTC or WCU. That is all I am saying. Schedule up and win. That is the only way to improve the SoCon in the rankings.

Asked this question of some folks in athletics, and we are allowed two of these kinds of games with no effect to RPI. Much like when we play FBS schools, I thinkthis is a money game for Hiawassee and I'm OK with it if it helps them keep funding their athletics.

I was wondering if it didn't have an effect on our RPI. Thanks for clearing that up.
I still wouldn't have scheduled them. Our guys have played some tough road games recently and more are to come. I would have preferred they have the time off with finals coming up and after spending so much time in Nashville.

Mercer is running away in the 2nd half, leading by about 30 with 5 minutes to go. I did want to say that I thought Hiwassee showed nice sportsmanship and they had some good looking athletes. I can see why we'd give them a game. They even had Under Armour uniforms, so they aren't playing on the cheap. Solid showing by the Bears to maintain confidence going into the Alcorn State match-up.

Yeah, didn't look that great early. Even to be leading by only 12 at the half is a bit disappointing. But they played a nice final 11 minutes and got the W in a "rest" game. Gotta get ready for Alcorn State Saturday and then a BIG stretch of games against Auburn, Arkansas, and Ohio State.
