There's nothing wrong with taking a FG, but burning a timeout to do it is crazy.

Samford leads 24-19 with 4:00 to go. We took a touchback to begin what could be the final drive. Having burned a critical timeout just recently, it very well might be.

How in the world do you send 12 players onto the field after a timeout?

Man, these players gave it everything they had. There's absolutely no excuse to send 12 out on the field after your own team calls the timeout. That 5 yard penalty was massive.

We're as good as anyone in the SoCon/nation if we play a complete game. I love this team, but that's simply not true. Top teams don't have "ifs". The Citadel, Wofford, UTC, and Samford are the top teams. Mercer lost to them all, but beat the teams below them. That's not a bad spot after 4 years. Mercer's made amazing strides to get where they are in only 4 years. I could argue that this is the maximum they could have hoped for. They're competing against long established SoCon powers. There's no reason to hang their heads, and I'm very very proud of the Bears. They've set the table for the future, and can put a stamp on this season with a big performance against Furman to close out 2016. Great game today by the Bears. I appreciated the effort. They took some big hits and put their bodies on the line to win. Beat Furman next week!! |
