#7 is a warrior. I coulda posted this in the Samford thread but I thought I'd give him his own. Obviously the game plan was for him to carry the load running and he knew he was going to take shot after shot all day. And he did it.
Amazing considering he came in with the Day 1's w/ no scholarship. To have a player like him right out of the gate and him turn out to be the player he is is pretty outstanding. He is really going to be missed next year. I hope our young QB's are watching and learning as much as they can. They'll have big shoes to fill next year.

He's taken some hits. A few times I thought he was gonna stay on the ground. I didn't know he didn't have a scholly though. He's earned it.

Due to Mercer's BALANCED Offense not rolling up big QB Stats numbers and the Team's below 4th Place finish in the SoCon, it is unlikely that #7 will be named All SoCon as a QB.
That said, if there were a SoCon All-Madden Team, Russ would be Player of the Year!

Great player for the Bears. I imagine he will hold school records for decades.

Great player for the Bears. I imagine he will hold school records for decades. Probably true. Although it will be interesting what happens next year. We have Michael Haynes (R-Jr), Tanner Brumby (R-So), and Kaelan Riley (R-Fr) coming back. I'm sure the QB competition will be intense, but Riley came in having turned down an App State offer to attend Mercer and if, somehow, he wins the starting job, we could have another situation where there is a 4 year starter and may have a shot at some of those records if he's any good and can stay healthy. Obviously way to soon to tell, but playing for 4 years and never missing a game is pretty amazing.

Just for comparison's sake, Russ had a freshman campaign against a Pioneer League schedule. Next year's QB will have a SoCon schedule AND Alabama and Auburn. I'd suggest the offensive yards will be more difficult to come by than they were a few seasons ago. Team around the new QB will arguably be more talented, but the competition is infinitely more difficult. By my calculation, Russ has put up 10,585 yards of offense in his four seasons in Macon. Just to use Furman as an example, Reese Hannon (who has missed a number of games with injury, but has played pretty routinely for four seasons), just broke Furman's all time offense mark and sits at 7,489 yards of offense. There are Paladin players on that top 10 list going back to the 1970s. So, just to put that in perspective, Russ has 3,000 more total yards than Furman's top player, for a program that has been playing football since, what, 1889. Hannon, incidentally, broke the mark held by Ingle Martin, who had 6,200 yards and 50 touchdowns in two seasons.

For example, Devlin Hodges accounted for 2,500 yards of production as a Freshman in part time action, and looks like will clear *4,000* yards this year, not including the playoffs. So he is going to pace out at, what, 13-14,000 career yards?

He threw for 13,264 as a four year starter in a system very similar to Samford's. When he graduated he held the SoCon career mark for passing yardage. I don't think that has been approached since, though Hodges will probably make a run at it.
