Really wonder about that fumble on the goal line, but I guess we'll never know. Obviously, I have a bias, but I think he was in. There is no one blocking the line judge’s view of the play, so he’s just looking at Wilcox. Wilcox is hit from a player coming out from the endzone. The ball is knocked straight down. Nearly the entire ball is already in the endzone when it comes out. I don’t see how the ball comes out straight down in the endzone if it wasn’t already in the endzone. Granted, replay would be nice, but I see nothing on the replay that makes me think it was the wrong call. Reasonable minds can differ, of course. Edit: on further review, I am not even sure it would have been a fumble. Wilcox reaches in, the player appears to land on him with the ball already on the ground.

It doesn't matter because we'll never know. But you can't see any of that. #5 (who was coming down the line, not from the end zone) whole body is in the way. The last time you see the ball in Wilcox's arm it's up in the air and completely separated from his body, 5 comes in and across, and then you can see the ball bouncing around as 5's legs pass by, then our #20 lands on it. It's already hit the ground by the time 5 passes and the ball is visible again, and it's already out. The question is when did it come out, and you can't tell any of that from that angle because #5 is in the way. My kingdom for fixed cameras looking down goal lines.

I don’t see it in the air. I see him spin and reach the ball behind his head. It looks to me as though the ball isn’t separated until Mercer player lands his right hip on it.
And I don’t disagree with you. It’d be nice to have definitive proof. I’d feel a bit more iffy about it if the line judge wasn’t looking right at the play. He doesn’t hesitate in calling touchdown.
Lightining is going to strike me because I gave the benefit of the doubt to a SoCon ref.

Lightining is going to strike me because I gave the benefit of the doubt to a SoCon ref. I've seen how piss poor socon officials are when they are literally staring at the ball from 10 feet away. Also on the ESPN3 broadcast the sideline guy said two officials had different calls, but resolved to a TD so there was at least an argument. Ball landed there and then rolled forward. Ball looks in when it lands, but I can't tell when it came out.

“At least an argument” it was the right call is a might bit better than many that I’ve seen that are clearly wrong.
In all, a good hard fought relatively clean game, I thought.

Mmmmm another late 4th quarter loss. Is it in this staffs DNA?.....they were talking today about this on ESPNU how programs that lose often late in games have this vibe around them that is very hard to break. They expect something to go wrong at key moments and it usually does. No denying the fact that MU has this issue. This program is on the cusp of being a top tier SOCON program but continues to fail to get over the hump. Said it before....how long does MU deal with it?

The Line Judge who made the call Sat. is the same Line Judge that made this call last year...he didn't hesitate then either. Still feelin' un-iffy?

Not really. That call last season was a terrible one. The line judge had a bad day at the office and, I'm sure, had some 'splainin to do to the league office.

very quiet in here after another 4th quarter loss. Maybe it is hitting home that the stigma with this staff is relevant now?
