Last conference game for the Bears.
WCU sports probably the only true prototypical dual threat QB in the conference, Tyrie Adams. Also, I personally think their RB Detrez Newsome is the most dynamic running back in the conference. So this will be a good test for our defense. It's going to be strength on strength for sure.
Western's defense has given up some yards, but their scoring defense has been pretty good. Honestly, after what I saw last week from us on offense, it won't matter how any opponent is playing, we won't score. However, if we right the offensive ship, we could certainly score enough to win this one.
But, at the end of the day, we have to keep Adams and Newsome off the field. Also, we have to limit the 3 and outs. The defense was on the field FOREVER last week. 5 of 8 drives in the 2nd half were 3 and out or worse. I'd rather we not do that to our D late in games.

I hope the Try-to-out-gimmick-the-gimmicky Offense went back to Homewood & won’t make the trip to Cullowhee. Have always been very impressed with MU Offense for the past 4 years. Let’s do that!

WCU is definitely preparing for the "normal" Mercer team and not the one from last week. Typical plan for us - defense has to continue to try and contain big plays and keep scoring down while the offense needs to create big plays and not get fancy and have a bunch of 3-and-outs to help our athletic but undersized D. We will most likely give up significant yardage again. Turnovers allowed us to win the game against Citadel, but if we are on the wrong end we can lose to anybody (especially a Mercer team that I expect to play with their hair on fire). You guys have a history of maybe 1 really bad game a year (either just outmanned against really good teams or a head-scratcher like ETSU), and seldom do I remember bad games in back-to-back weeks. I can promise you nobody in the Socon looks at Mercer as a 4-win team - they look at you guys as a very tough test. Coach Speir likened this game and where we stand in the conference and playoff race to a game-7 in the World Series. Hopefully we will not let the pressure get to us and we see both teams play well.
I expect the winner to need probably 28 points in this one.

He needs to be more specific with his trash talk.
Even assuming he means D1 football team, Savannah State clearly wins that prize.

Keep this one in your hip pocket. Hopefully, you realize that the Barstool posters has nothing to do with WCU or WCU fans. Its part of the Barstool Sports ( www.barstoolsports.com/ ) and they've created a Barstool twitter account for most DI schools. Unfortunately, all of the Barstool accounts talk trash all the time, not just on #TalkTrashTuesday.

I think I would pick Georgia Southern this year.

I may give the nod to Georgia State. lol I understand that most people, obviously including the posters on this board, think they dropped Football because of their complete irrelevance now, but GaSou continues to pretend to field a Football Team down in Stinkburro, GA... Take a look at how they are doing among the 129 FBS Teams... Record: 0-8; which will go to 0-9 when they lose to Taylor Lamb's Appy Team tonight. Offense

Have to agree on Georgia Southern. Already fired the coach mid-season. How far the mighty can fall when they make the "jump" to FBS. On another SoCon-related side note, App St is also having a season below what they were expecting. Sun Belt football and watching Oklahoma vs OK State last week reminds me of why I like FCS football so much.

It is sad to see what was formerly one of the marquee games in the FCS being played on a Thursday night (tonight) as one of the least relevant games of the season. The SunBelt is just horrific. Georgia Southern is winless. App State actually has a winning record, but really only because the rest of that conference is so abysmally bad. Right now App State has 5 wins against teams with a combined 11-33 record. If they beat Georgia Southern, 11-41. That is, App State could become bowl eligible without beating a single decent football team.

I would have much preferred to have a Bedlam style game then what I saw last week in our game.
