From this weekend's SoCo Hoops Project: "The Bears are tied for sixth now, but do not own the tiebreaker against The Citadel at the moment, so they are seventh. Mercer has the mid-week off and then they go to Chattanooga and Samford next week. The Bears need to keep on winning to get back into this race. Mercer is a solid team that has been underperforming. If they can move back up the conference standings, they can be a dangerous team in Asheville."
Due to ETSU being so dominate, #6 isn't a bad place to be.

This article was before this weekend. Break up the Bears! Don’t look now, but Bob Hoffman has Mercer playing well at the right time. Mercer has won three straight, and those wins have come without the services of leading scorer Ria’n Holland, who remains sidelined with an injury but is expected back before the season ends. Ross Cummings has been the player that has stepped up as of late, including a 21-point effort to lead the Bears to a 74-69 road win over Samford. The sharp-shooting sophomore guard posted 13 of his 21 points came in the second half, and scored more than half of his team-high total on four triples. If the season ended today, the Bears would be the No. 6 seed in the tournament in Asheville, which of course means they wouldn’t have to play that extra game and that’s huge. It figures to be a wild tournament in Asheville in early March. www.midmajormadness.com/2018/2/15/17011280/socon-update-a-look-at-unc-greensboros-big-win-mercer-etsu-forbes-citadel-college-basketball-uncg
