It would if FUBeAR was the SoCon Commissioner If a school isn't willing to commit to funding their programs to be competitive with the league, then the conference should encourage them to leave, not penalize them. FUBeAR would do both!

I wouldn't cast too many stones as Mercer's men's athletics sits at the bottom of the SoCon in the Commissioner's Cup. The women outpace only the Citadel and VMI (who don't have many women). Granted, both of those things surprised me. www.soconsports.com/pdf9/5463020.pdf

The way this scoring system works, these rankings can only be truly ascertained at the end of the year when the scores for the rankings of a school’s lower rankings in the number of sponsored sports in excess of 7 are dropped from their overall score. Mercer finished 4th in Men’s Sports & 6th in Women’s Sports last FULL year; both ahead of the Cantamounts 2016-17 Southern Conference Cup standings (FINAL) For example, for Men’s Sports, a more reflective current partial-year assessment, using each school’s best 3 of the 7 Sports already completed, which approximates the end-of-year use of 7 of 12, would look like this... School % ETSU 0.933 Furman 0.878 UNCG 0.844 Samford 0.836 WCU 0.722 Wofford 0.661 Chatt 0.655 Mercer 0.635 CIT 0.546 VMI 0.533 With Mercer dropping that last place finish in XC & expected strong finishes in Tennis (2-0 in SoCon & 1st place at present) & baseball (best record in SoCon & Reg Season Champion for the past 3 years), and an OK finish in golf, Mercer will likely pass Chatt & Woffy. I believe the Bears could also pass WCU, Sammy, & UNCG to finish 3rd this year (to the sound of Jackal’s gnashing teeth). But, there’s still a lot of balls that need to be whacked before it’s all shook out. Until this year’s FINAL standings are calculated, feel free to hurl boulders toward TheWheeee, Greensboro, SparkleCity, ChuckTown, ‘Nooga, and LexVegas right now...if you like.

I get all that. Mercer’s top sport (probably baseball) is still to come.
I just raise the issue because telling other programs to get competitive or get out when your school is in effectively last place in both men’s and women’s sports, probably isn’t the best look.

My response had nothing to do with telling teams to leave. It had to do with not discouraging a team with an exit fee IF they wanted to move down a level.

Until this year’s FINAL standings are calculated, feel free to hurl boulders toward TheWheeee, Greensboro, SparkleCity, ChuckTown, ‘Nooga, and LexVegas right now...if you like. As projected by FUBeAR, Mercer’s Men Teams flew by the Mocks & the Porch-yappers & they passed the Cantamounts to finish in the 5th spot for the Commissioner’s Cup - far from the ‘last’ that Jackal was trying to make you believe was the Bears’ fate this year...but, also, I’m sure, far from where President Underwood expects Mercer’s programs to finish in the SoCon. Commissioner’s Cup (through spring sports - final) (Men’s athletics) 1. ETSU 0.893 2. Samford 0.767 3. Furman 0.757 4. UNCG 0.755 5. Mercer 0.585 6. Wofford 0.573 7. Western Carolina 0.561 8. Chattanooga 0.456 9. The Citadel 0.427 10. VMI 0.424 The Lady Bears fared a bit better, by also passing UNCG, and grabbing the 4th place spot in the Germann Cup. Also, much better than Jackal’s dire ‘warnings’ projected. Germans Cup (through spring sports - final) (Women’s athletics) 1. Furman 0.949 2. Samford 0.826 3. ETSU 0.784 4. Mercer 0.725 5. UNCG 0.673 6. Chattanooga 0.624 7. Western Carolina 0.549 8. Wofford 0.470 9. VMI 0.296 10. The Citadel 0.185 I think if you look at these together, there are 4 tiers in SoCon Athletics right now... Tier 1 - ETSU, Furman, Samford Tier 2 - Mercer, UNCG Tier 3 - Chatt, WCU, Wofford Tier 4 - The Citadel, VMI

Oh...also...this... SOCON ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE YEAR - Mercer University soccer forward Will Bagrou and [Mercer University] basketball guard Kahlia Lawrence have been named the 2018 Southern Conference Male and Female Athletes of the Year, the league announced today (May 29).
This is only the second time the male and female winners are from the same school and first since the 1990-91 school year...So...Top 2 Individual Awards & only trailing ETSU, Furman, and Samford as an overall Athletics Program. Pretty clear that Mercer is, without question, a highly competitive program within the Southern Conference. Thus, if a Mercer Fan, in response to an excuse-making, whining, crying, poor-mouthing lament from an AD from another SoCon school, wishes to remark with something akin to “Fund up or get out, then,” they are in a perfectly good position from which to do so... ...Silly Jackal

And again, you take my comments out of context. Regardless of the final standings, Mercer fans were on here telling other schools to up their athletic programs while their own programs were sitting in last place in these standings. I just pointed out the irony. I also noted that arguably Mercer's best sport (baseball) was yet to come, which the Bears did well in.

I just pointed out the irony. I also noted that arguably Mercer's best sport (baseball) was yet to come, which the Bears did well in. Comments were not taken out of context. Perhaps your Ambien was kicking in and you’ve forgotten the context. You pulled an arcane & incomplete stat out of the SoCon ethosphere & attempted to use that anomalous stat to browbeat (at least one) Mercer Fan(s) into not speaking ‘above their station,’ i.e., not gettin’ too uppity. You quoted someone else, but, based on the CONTEXT of that poster’s post & of mine preceding it, your ill-informed rebuke should have been directed squarely at FUBeAR. So...as I’ve been using my mule to plow my 40 SoCon acres for almost 40 years, if I, as a Mercer Fan (or as a Furman Fan), want to call out WCU’s AD for his BS in his poor-mouthing whine-fest, then I darn well will...regardless of how Mercer’s X-Country Team performed 9 months ago. The purpose of these recent posts is to update the partial, and therefore, extremely misleading Jackal poop that you were trying to sell to Mercer Fans back in March & to again advise them that they needn’t be meek about expressing their opinions & desires for SoCon Athletics. Mercer is keeping up its end of ‘the deal’ just fine. The Bears are a proven SoCon Athletics LEADER and if Mercer Fans want to opine about the LAGGARDS or, whatever topic strikes their fancy, regarding SoCon Athletics, there is NO REASON why they should not. Oh...by the way... Mercer Wins Third Straight Barrett-Bonner Award - The Barrett-Bonner Award is given to the SoCon school that places the highest percentage of its student-athletes on the league's academic honor roll. Mercer's three-year run (2015-16 – 2017-18) of winning the Barrett-Bonner Award marks the longest streak since former SoCon member Davidson won the award six straight years from 2008-09 to 2013-14. Mercer and Davidson are the only schools to win the Barrett-Bonner Award multiple times and have combined to receive the award 23 times in its 26-year existence.
