Guys,it was a general comment about spending the money on something else. In fact I got a phone call from MU ticket sales asking me if I wanted to buy more tickets this year due to several seats opening up adjacent to mine. I have sat in the same seats since the beginning and finding room to spread out has never been a problem.
let's face it. MU was owned on Saturday night. Riddle threw the ball 47 times and we averaged 6.1 yards per completion. We ran the ball 37 times and average 1.4 yards per carry. I will admit David Durden is a beast. However, after the opening kickoff return we picked up 3 yards on 3 plays and had to settle for a field goal. We ran the ball twice in the 3rd quarter trying to pick up 1 yard and we lost 2 or 3 yards and turned the ball over on downs. When we had the ball on 3rd and long on several occasions during the game we ran 20-30 yard routes rather than 10-15 yard routes to pick up the first down. If we did run a 10-15 yard route it was only 1 receiver running that route.
I thought this year maybe the turning point year and MU makes the playoffs, but I am afraid that the coaches got it right when the picked us to be middle of the pack again.
So here’s the thing...and let me try to say this tactfully (not FUBeAR’s best skillset...maybe BearDownMU will do better)...
This site is here to talk Mercer U., particularly Mercer Athletics, and even more particularly, Mercer Football and it’s up 24/7/365...and then a (self-proclaimed) fan...a season ticket holder from Day 1...comes on (without registering) for, most likely, the 1st ever...and spits out a list of all of the horrors of attending a Mercer Football game. As fans & participants here, glad to have more folks posting, but this approach doesn’t warrant much credibility.
Let me tell you about FUBeAR’s Day...
Drove down from ATL; no issues with traffic. Ate lunch with my family at Growlers across the street from Five Star Stadium. GREAT BEER & very good food. Excellent service & clean. They put on the FU @ VT game for me on a BIG TV. Saw MU’s OC & DC sitting on some chairs outside, apparently, just enjoying a beautiful day before they went to get their game faces on. Interrupted their quiet time & Introduced myself to them & they couldn’t have been nicer or more friendly. Cried a little in my IPA over the FBS Refs screwing my Alma Mater, paid the reasonable check & left. With no traffic snarls, I Paid my $10 & went right to a GREAT Tailgate spot (public spot) near everything, but still in a beautiful, natural setting. Set up my tent, table, chairs, spread, cooler. Spent some time enjoying a few beverages, talking to Mercer fans, staff, families of current players, and former players. Walked thru the GIANT Inflatables ‘Farm’ & Just loved seeing the little kids & their young parents & grandparents having the time of their lives. Went on to Black Field & enjoyed the performers for a few minutes. Talked to one, but he happened to be a former Mercer QB/TE, so I was kinda cheating...but it was still cool. Climbed up into a pontoon boat, enjoyed the comfort & the view. Checked out the specs & the pricing. I had no idea what one of those cost. Not too steep. I doubt I’ll ever buy one, but BassPro Shops now has at least 1 more informed potential customer. Went back to the tent & cheered on the Bears during the Bear Walk...just a few steps from the tent...more beverages...Dinner with family & friends...dropped the tent,..no need to put anything in the car. Nobody messes with your stuff there. Walked the short distance to the game & gave away the 2 tickets that they gave me (I almost forgot about that) at Growlers to a nice young couple standing in line to buy their. They were very happy & appreciative! Bought game & annual programs for the very nice attendants & went to GREAT seats. Watched an exciting 1st half of 2 tough & talented football teams. Moved down to where I really like to sit - end line on the berm near the field house. I can see all of the OL schemes from there. I can hear the Players (can even smell some of them)...and I watched a 2nd half of football that I did not like. Went back to the tent for about 45 minutes of wind-down with other fans...and left without any traffic issues. A FINE, FINE DAY!
* HATED THE RUNNING GAME
* HATED THE PUNTING GAME
* HATED THAT, APPARENTLY, AN OUTSTANDING YOUNG QB MADE A COUPLE OF VERY COSTLY MISTAKES AMONG THE MANY, MANY THINGS HE DID RIGHT, WHILE UNDER INTENSE PRESSURE FROM ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSES IN FCS FOOTBALL (IMO)
* DIDN’T LIKE THAT I THINK THE D MIGHT HAVE LOST SOME ENTHUSIASM IN THE 4th QUARTER...LOTS OF REASONS WHY THEY WOULD, BUT...
BUT...ALL THAT SAID...still a fine, fine day with family & friends enjoying all of the pageantry of a very high level of college football without all of the hassles & expense of ‘other’ venues.
Love to have you post regularly & complaining is fine. It’s just rec’d better when it’s not ALL that’s done.
