Personal opinion, but that would be more of the same.

If we want to go 5-6 with a non-existent defense every year...

Hatcher is under contract through the 2023 season at Samford, so if Mercer want him bad enough, I'm sure there are buyout provisions in Hatcher's contract that Mercer would have to pay on top of whatever Mercer paid Hatcher as salary.

I’m a nope on this as well. Other than Valdosta, he hasn’t really done much. He had Devlin Hodges and some pretty good WRs and didn’t get much in the way of results.

I thought Bobby Lamb was a good guy and not a bad coach, but it was probably the right time for a change. Drew Cronic would be a fantastic hire in my opinion. Good luck in your coaching search Bears fans.

Thanks to Bobby Lamb for all that he has done for our program at Mercer. He was the right person at the right time for Mercer and deserves big thanks from all of us! Having said that I agree with AD Cole it is the right time to move on to take that next step. I see others have mentioned the service academies and some have mentioned Kennesaw Coaches and Lenoir Rhyne coach. All good candidates. I’m interested in seeing winning football. When I look at a program at our level around the same age I look no further than Kennesaw. My preference would be in the vein of Kennesaw or Service Academies. I think that gives us the best opportunity to be unique and competitive consistently year in and year out. Kennesaw has made three straight playoff appearances and have posted 3 consecutive 10 win seasons in only a 5 year history! I think that would create excitement in Bear nation and we would see a full stadium on Saturday afternoons. I doubt Bohannon would make a lateral move, but you never know. I do think as some have mentioned that Grant Chestnut would be an excellent consideration. I am hoping AD Cole will be thinking the same way. Go Bears!

I lived in Savannah for several years while working at Gulfstream. I have many Ga Southern friends from that time and I attended several games with them. The option they ran back then was fun to watch and they killed opponents. I know many of them are frustrated now, and they want it back.
Having witnessed it many times, I'd welcome those names mentioned. I think we could become a force in FCS and sellout Five Star often.

I hate to get involved in this discussion, but our issue is not on the offensive side of the football. The past three years we are averaging a little better than 28 points a game. Taking out Memphis sand North Carolina, we have performed well when we had the ball. The problem I see is on defense. This year teams averaged 35 points against us, no one at any level can afford that. Our offensive numbers were down a little this year, but our OC from last year led Chattanooga to the #1 total offense and #4 scoring offense (.8 points behind 2nd) for the season. However our defense has been terrible this year ranking 7th and 8th in scoring and total defense respectively. So while many may like the offenses of some of the coaches you mentioned I would love to see the OC from Samford get a shot. The main thing we need though is a defensive coach who can get it done. Our OL was week and our defense could not stop simple base runs. I think we have the weapons with Devezin, Johnson, Cannon, Durden, Jones, the freshman TE, and Frost, Fromm or Riddle at QB. We just need to become more physical upfront and develop a true identity on defense. Just my opinion of course.

Either Cronic or Quarles would be a good hire. Probably in that order.

We were -12 in turnover margin. Opponents 3rd down conversation percentage was almost 50%! That's good for dead last in the conference. We were also second to last in 4th down conversion percentage allowed. We had 10 sacks all season. That was good for last, with the team above is in 2nd to last had 16. 6 more! I'm not gonna pile on and list them all, but the defensive numbers were just bad. Bad, bad, bad.

I’ve attended every game for the past two years and our biggest issue is physicality. O-Line and Defense has to be shored up. We do not need an academy style offense. It’s boring and does not take advantage of the talent we have. We are loaded with athletes and have scored a ton of points, we just can’t get stops!

Let me suggest another way to think about it. We have Durden, Cannon, McKee, Mays, Peterson, Grant (and a host of others) at WR. Arguably our deepest position group truly loaded with all-conference type talent. You really want to switch to an offense where we are trying to figure out how to split 8 passes per game up between all of them??
No thanks.

-12 in the turnover margin is solely on the defense? I do not think so also when your scoring average of 28 is boosted because of below-average defenses such as Pc, pioneer league, and Western Carolina. A grand total of 7 points against Wofford, and 10 points against Furman. Not to mention 4 turnovers against Austin Peay 2 returned for touchdowns, 4 turnovers against Furman, an interception returned for a touchdown against Campbell, 3 turnovers and 2 blocked kicks against UTC. Stats do not lie. Yes, the defense gave up 35 points a game, however, try to find a coach that can defend against the short field. Not all of the team's struggles were on the defense.
