Still way early, but this is exciting progress for the program. And, if we play like we played yesterday, I like our chances against anyone.

Mr. Sagarin is even more sold on the Bears being a Top 8 Seed… Jeff Sagarin's College Football Ratings1. Montana 2. North Dakota State 3. Sacramento State 4. South Dakota State 5. Weber State 6. Mercer7. Southern Illinois 8. Montana State

Noted FCS pundit, Sam Herder, also has the Bears, at this point, claiming a Top 8 Seed. FCS Top 25: Sam Herder’s Ballot For The Week Of 10-10-20221. North Dakota State 2. South Dakota State 3. Montana 4. Montana State 5. Weber State 6. Sacramento State 7. Mercer8. Holy Cross “My biggest jump is Mercer to No. 7. The Bears pass the eyeball test offensively and defensively. Fred Payton has been fantastic with 16 TDs to zero INT. They have dominated their FCS opponents to a 5-0 vs. FCS record. While the opponents may not jump off the page as far as ranked wins, Mercer did hammer Gardner-Webb 45-14 a week after G-W narrowly lost 30-24 to my now-No. 9 Elon and two weeks after G-W lost 31-27 to G5 power Coastal Carolina. And I know comparing scores isn’t fair because every week is different and performances vary week to week, which is why I don’t lean on that argument. (Because Montana beat Indiana State by more points than NDSU did, and Montana State beat Idaho State by more points than Montana did.) The score comparison is dangerous, but my main point is Mercer isn’t just beating up on crappy teams. And if that’s not enough for ya, Mercer’s strength of schedule through games played is 42nd, much higher than Montana’s 75th and just behind NDSU’s 41st.”

Does “bad juju” mean “speaking it into existence?” Doesn’t seem like it would be.

Does “bad juju” mean “speaking it into existence?” Doesn’t seem like it would be. If Mercer wins out, I think it would happen, but winning the next 5 is not a given. You may not be aware…but about 3-4 weeks ago, FUBeAR (and his IRL alter-ego) initiated a campaign to attack poll voters (in all polls, except the Coaches poll) directly regarding the ridiculously low ranking of ALL SoCon Teams. Samford’s win over KennySaw was helpful fodder upon which to ignite this argument as Mercer and Chatt (and Samford) continued to do their parts by winning. Progress has been solid, even with ETSU not living up to their end of things. Instead of suppressing SoCon Teams at the #15 ‘redline,’ voters are now easily putting the Bears, Mocs, and Bulldogs in their Top 15 with many of them allowing these ‘outsiders’ into “Top 10 Land.” Even Furman, despite some struggles and a loss to Samford has moved up in some rankings. They would have been buried beneath the ORV level in the past. Calling numerous voters out directly and publicly reciting FACTS that show the fallacies in their prior rankings is making a difference. More of us should do it. MVFC Fans learned how to do this 1st and has seen their meh Teams gain high rankings (and At Large Playoff bids) on the backs of the Bison. Big Sky peeps then followed suit. SoCon fans need to learn how to public advocate for their Teams AND for other SoCon Teams at the same time. So…now that we are seeing progress in the rankings, and we see an opportunity to pump SoCon Teams being seeded, we need to do it. ETSU was undefeated for a long time last season with an SEC win and they were not even being discussed in the convo’s about seeds. It was insane. ETSU had every right to be ranked #1 until they lost to Chatt, but they were barely in the Top 10. Advocacy shouldn’t matter…but it does. More SoCon Fans need to ‘get in the game.’

Maybe we should get real dirty and not have our top teams play at all like I’ve heard other conferences may do.

It certainly looks like SoCon is far superior to the CAA this year. Maybe the SoCon will get the multiple bids that the CAA normally gets.

Think we need Elon & Bill & Mary to get tripped up. New Hampshire is leading the CAA now, but they will trip up. Need them all (except 1) to get 3+ losses in conference

I think some of the factors that can hurt us for playoffs is OOC scheduling. Mercer was arguably a playoff team last year, but playing only an NAIA team last year instead of 2 other FCS teams probably kept us out.

Play, Massey has NDSU’s & Mercer’s SoS’s @ 41 & 42 respectively. The Bizuns played a PFL, a meh PAC 12, and an OK Big South - nearly identical to Mercer’s schedule - except SEC > PAC12. If anyone wants to zing MU’s SoS - just hit ‘em with the BeingBison argument.

They're going to get some anchoring bias.
