Thinking our only prayer for the playoffs is a win at Samford. Assuming FU and UTC win out that would leave 2 SoCon teams at 7-1 and 2 at 6-2 in the conference. Not sure at all how the committee would handle that. It’s really looking like the easy schedule early on made us fans overconfident. Def a conference of haves and have nots this year.

Our best win right now is probably Gardner-Webb, they could win the Big South Conference this week.
The team as a whole is still pretty good, but we haven't been able to run the ball well against these better teams. We've lost some OL and RBs, but still need to figure out a way to win.

You nailed it, ursus. Losing OG Poe (grad), OG Harris (portal), and OT DeFranco (injury) off the Offensive Line … AND … Losing RB Davis (unavailable), RB Douglas (injury), RB Miller (injury @ VMI)… …have greatly impacted the Running game AND PassPro. Hopefully, the youngsters in the OL - Wilkerson, Richardson, Howard, Mukwiza, Bumpers, and Kamau will continue to improve and step up their game to Championship Level - Hopefully, this Saturday. Also…hopefully, Miller will be back and able to spread the RB load out. Wouldn’t mind seeing Coleman get a few snaps/carries. He’s been impressive when he’s had a few chances. Had a nice KOR last Saturday. Kinda seems to have a burst that could be helpful. Gonna need all hands on deck this week.

How the computers are seeing it. Definitely feels like a game where we will win by 3 or lose by +14. Probably need our defense to create 2 extra possessions and also we can't have any turnovers. Not much margin for error.

Not much margin for error. Nailed it again. FUBeAR has, optimistically, projected a Mercer win by 3 - 38-35 - but could just as easily see a 38 - 24 loss that is not as close as the score appears. Up to the Defense to win this game and up to the Offense and Special Teams to do their parts not to lose it.

I think Mercer wins this one and leaves no doubt they should be included in the tournament. Coach Chronic has done a fantastic job and no one would want to meet them in the playoffs! Good luck today!

Defense still playing pretty well. Turnovers and leaving points on the field. Could easily have 31 points at the half with a few less mistakes.

Had the opportunities and didn't take advantage.

Until changes are made in the admin it will not matter how good of a coach is here in Macon. They won’t be able to find the success that Mercer so badly wants. When you underfund a program in vital areas just to dress up the fan experience you see the results.

What part of the program is underfunded? If you are gonna come in here anonymously and talk shit, don't do that vague-ass complaining thing. Be specific and don't be a coward. Go.

To say we competed with the undefeated SoCon champ is an understatement. But in the end a fumble into the end zone, missed field goal, and inability to score in 6 plays from the 2 means da Bears just didn’t get it done. This team hasn’t yet figured out how to get over the hump. And I don’t see how QB play will be this good next year.

This team hasn’t yet figured out how to get over the hump. And I don’t see how QB play will be this good next year. I feel like that's a pretty tough assessment. We are progressing every year. Highest national ranking we've ever had. Record might be a bit worse, but we played a DII school last year and only had 10 games. Don't get me wrong, I'm frustrated. But this team is hardly regressing. As far as QB's go, until I see different I still think Peavey can play (he should have picked up a redshirt year this year) and Shoch has looked good in the limited time we've seen him. So I'm less worried on that front. Certainly, Payton is a great player, but I think the very nature of this kind of offense makes it way less dependent on needing a superstar QB to be successful anyway. If we're being honest, we need to get better on the OL. And based on the offers I'm seeing get tweeted about on Twitter, that's exactly what we are trying to do.

Lots of National respect this year. And most would see this as a “good” loss seeing that we took the conference champ to 2 OT. But my point is we had our chances to win and didn’t get over the hump. Samford didn’t make the kind of mistakes Mercer did. And they won the game. So yeah, this is the best Mercer team in history. But they still won’t make the playoffs.
