Also, lest I forget, Mercer defensive coordinator Joel Taylor has left to take the head job at West Georgia, who is moving up to FCS next season from Division II.

Let’s hope Mercer can add a couple of OL from the portal this year.

Let’s hope Mercer can add a couple of OL from the portal this year. Just added a new OL Coach. Football Names Jay Guillermo To Offensive Line Post
…and, like FUBeAR did @ Furman, Coach Guillermo had the pleasure and privilege of having the greatest O-Line Coach in the whole U-nited World - Robbie Caldwell - as his College OLine Coach @ Clemson. Hard to go wrong with a Robbie Caldwell developed OLman / OL Coach. Assuming he’s going to bring at least some of Coach Caldwell’s Coaching DNA (FUBeAR doesn’t leave home without it) with him, Mercer’s OLinemen and their families are in for a treat and Mercer will have a strong O-Line.

In light of recent developments, could coaches have known something was up? Why Taylor and Adams and Bodine, and White and Morris on the Strenght staff are gone? Jumping ship?

As someone who has never been anything more than a bystander in the recruiting process, I have a question for you more learned among us: Mercer has continued to announce commitments and transfers, such as Ian Hoover transferring from Texas State. Why would anyone commit or transfer to a program that doesn’t have a head coach? What if the next guy runs a totally different program, offense or defense than the last guy? Asking for a friend.

Why would anyone commit or transfer to a program that doesn’t have a head coach? What if the next guy runs a totally different program, offense or defense than the last guy? Asking for a friend. Most of the time guys are recruited by a position coach. And that’s the coach that they will spend the most time with by a long shot. So if the recruiter/position coach is holding down the recruit (assuming there isn’t some radical change in philosophy) the HC might matter less to some people.
