Not sure if he is a candidate, but the North Alabama HC would be interesting.

Interesting notice on the staff website. Cole is gone and the new guy Guillermo is gone. Are they going with Cronic to Navy? I can't see any of these young coaches getting the job. All new staff?

I would understand if he left for an FBS HC job or an OC at a P5 program, but Navy?

Mocs fan here...but weighing in....Why Navy? It is purely a financial decision. Buddy Green was making $400k as a DC at Navy over 10 years ago. I'll bet DC will be pulling down about $650k next year. Mercer has some funds, but not those kind...and with the direction of NCAA FB right now, the money is moving up. The days of 10+ year HCs in FCS are over. FCS is merely a stepping stone to a better gig for these guys. How can we expect players to have any loyalty when their leadership doesn't?

If he wants to move up in the coaching world, Navy is an odd move. NIL and the Portal will not be an issue with Navy. He will be perceived as lacking experience in these crucial areas for future jobs.

The former OC at Navy became the HC at a Division II school, Carson Newman.
He would have given his left nut to coach at Mercer.
What an odd move by Cronic.

Ashley Ingram, Carson-Newman’s new HC, was the OL Coach & Assistant Head Coach at Navy in 2023. He had been OL Coach there from 2008 to 2022 (even recruited “FUBeAR Jr.”/“Ursus” in 2010-11). He may have also had Run Game Offensive Coordinator responsibilities. Grant Chesnut was Navy’s 1-year-only Offensive Coordinator in 2023. Confusingly, he was also listed as Navy’s OL Coach ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Chesnut came from Kennesaw, where he had been OC and OL Coach for 10 years and worked with Navy’s HC (who was KSU’s DB/DC for 6 of those years there as they both were on the Owls’ 1st Coaching Staff together). To FUBeAR - that’s the odd move - you work with a guy for 6 years - hire him as soon as you get (luck into?) an FBS HC gig and fire him after 1 year of trying to transition from an oddball Offense that had been run forever at Navy - the fact that the O you want to transition from is the same O the guy you hired ran for 10 years at KSU notwithstanding) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - Hope he’ll treat Coach Cronic a bit better than he treated his colleague of 7 years. But…if Navy goes 4-7 against (mostly really bad - 4 wins over Teams with .292 winning %) FBS Competition, loses to both Army and Air Force, and doesn’t make 1 of 198 Bowl Games, the HC (and Staff) may be looking for a new gig in 2025. As he is a Georgia native and former HS Coach in GA, FUBeAR would think you are correct about Coach Ingram coveting the Mercer HC gig…although rumors are he turned down many HC offers over the years…which kinda makes FUBeAR wonder … “why THIS year?” more than “why THIS job.” That said - maybe his name is ‘on the list for the Mercer HC job. FUBeAR would imagine he’s not too settled in up in Jefferson City yet. For that matter, Grant Chesnut is also a GA native and has years of experience recruiting in GA from his KSU days. Maybe his name is ‘on the list’ also … and he and Coach Cronic can just do a Maconga - Annapolis house swap. All that said…Coach Cronic’s career moves have always been a bit out of the norm and seem somewhat non-linear…BUT they have certainly worked out well for him. So, his decision to move from Mercer HC to Navy OC at this time gets the benefit of the doubt from ol’ FUBeAR.
