Good football team. Usually well coached, disciplined, etc. Run the ball almost exclusively with an offense that is a variation of the triple option. Defense is stout against the run, but pass defense is their greatest weakness. Key is to not let them get a lead and grind you for the game.
They did not have a good game against Furman, but have historically struggled in Greenville. I imagine with a winning season on the line, you'll get a pretty good game out of them.

Lots of gnashing of teeth, tearing at their clothes, and putting on their hairshirts over at TerrierFans.com FootballThe fans of the LittleDogs from SparkleCity are not one little bit happy about losing to the (formerly) Baptist school 40 miles down I-85.
"I knew this would happen. It seems that once again we've given up, just like we did last season. I guess they packed it in when they lost last week to Chatty and were eliminated from a playoff shot. Where is this team's sense of pride, of school spirit? This is Furman, damn it! FURMAN!!!! There is no way they should be losing today given the season the Paladins have had. But I knew they'd lay this egg. I know the team too well. This whole program has lost the magic it once had. I don't think anyone on the coaching staff has a clue on how to get it back and I don't think they'll be tons better next year just because they are a year older either. Something is lacking, and I think it's mental. We used to expect success and would go out and make it happen Now I think we expect to fail, and when that happens you have no chance. I am just trying to pinpoint the issues with the team and program in a nutshell but I am starting to think maybe it's no so simple and it runs deeper than this. I don't think it is a lack of talent on the part of the players. Have the coaches lost their edge? Has the league simply caught up with all their schemes and they are no longer able to adjust? It's complex but we need to figure it out or we'll be mediocre at best every year."They seem to have caught a case of the injury bug from the Paladins as well...
"Cole, Young, Thomas (Travis) and Vining left the game with a knee or ankle injury. Armfield I know played; not sure about Anderson. That's 6 players out of the 2 deep who were out or left the game plus 2 more who didn't start. 4 out of our secondary. Only 1 season starter in our secondary (Green) started Saturday. Yikes! No wonder we struggled."All that said, I have no doubt they will be loaded for BEAR and in a bad mood this Saturday! And despite what their fans are thinking of them right now, they are a good and well-coached team!

So what's the lowdown on Wofford? Some of the Wofford fans seem pretty down on their team. I thought they were have an OK season, but I guess the Furman game wasn't too good. Who is going this week and where do we tailgate? Decide if you are just parking or tailgating out of your car/truck/vehicle before you get there. If you are just parking, you'll pay around $10 to park in the area listed as #39 on the map. When you drive up Trinity St. and bear to the right in that tree-lined gravel road, they'll have an attendant there asking you if you are parking or tailgating. athletics.wofford.edu/documents/2014/8/24/Visitors_Guide_2014_15.pdf?tab=visitingteamguideIf you want to tailgate, I think they charge you $20 and you get sent into the section numbered #35. They'll put you in #34 if you get there late and there is a big crowd, but I'd wager there is zero chance on Saturday that lot will be used. Unless their policy has changed, you can go out at the half and come back in. Always liked that about their setup. Their food and beverage selections on the visiting side are spartan at best, which makes the pass out at the half all that more preferable. I don't expect they will have a big crowd in attendance.

Well...that makes sense...since they have the area marked as #39 ID'd as "Tailgating Areas"...and you are not 'allowed' to Tailgate there. I've heard their parking / tailgating scheme is a Chinese Fire Drill (sorry for the un-PC reference) for Visiting Fans. An FU friend of mine told me that Lot E, which is marked for Faculty/Staff is always empty and they let you park / tailgate there...didn't ask if it was $10, $20, or $25,000 though. I may go up Friday and see what I can Recon for the Football Families...if I remember, I'll report back here. Perhaps some Woffy peeps are trolling this Board and would be willing to help the NewbieBears out with some G2 on the VISITING Fans Tailgate Logistics...

Though I LOVE teams that run the dang ball...I sure hope John Russ sets new Mercer records for Attempts, Completions, Yards, AND TD's on Saturday...because NOBODY has rushed the ball effectively on Woffy's Defense. The only SoCon teams that have reached 'Move the Chains' level (>3.33 YPC) have been ElCid (who ONLY runs the ball) and WCU (whose QB had a broken wing that day meaning they could ONLY run the ball). Opponent | YPR vs. Wofford | YPR vs. Mercer | Samford | 1.69 | 3.03 | Furman | 2.00 | 3.23 | VMI | 2.76 | 3.64 | Chattanooga | 3.00 | 5.23 | Western Carolina | 3.45 | 3.76 | The Citadel | 3.68 | 7.25 |
On the other hand... Poor Execution Haunts Wofford Pass Defense

[Wofford Head Football Coach] Mike Ayers looks at the Mercer football team...
“We’re going to have to up our game to have a chance,” Ayers said. “If we do, we’ll have a chance. If we don’t, then we won’t have a chance because they’re just too good.”
Seriously....a chance? This is from the Head Coach of a team whose 'tagline' is that they are "Gold Standard of Southern Conference Football." This is a team that is favored by double-digits in this game, is undefeated at home this season, and prior to last season, had 10 winning seasons in the past 11 years, has won 4 SoCon Championships since 2003, was one of 3 schools in all of FCS to make the Playoffs in 5 of the prior 6 seasons, has played in the FCS Semi-Finals, has played in the FCS Quarter-Finals 3 times (most recently in 2011 being edged out by 1 score @ North Dakota State - 3 time FCS Champion)....and he's talking about "not having a chance" at home against a 2nd year program with 1 class of scholarship recruits.
Come on now, Coach Ayers...you can relieve yourself in my ear, but don't try to tell me it's raining!
Let's be honest...You, the Wofford Players & Coaches, and your fans know that the nasty, relentless short-haired dogs are going to mangle these l'il, young bear cubs on Saturday!

I wonder if the Bye week followed by playing much weaker competition last week might of got our young Bears out of their competitive mentality.
Wofford just ran all over us.
Truth be told, before the season started, I thought most SoCon games would go like this for us this year.
The Bears had a good season though.
