I need to do some research on the SoCon teams before I attempt to predict the order of finish in conference. I think it is clear that UTC should be the top team going into this year. But they have a new coach so it is always hard to predict how a coaching change will affect a team's chemistry.
With Nwamu's transfer, Mercer could struggle to stay in the top four. I hope I am wrong.
I am curious as to what others think.

Here is one take on the Furman forum www.uffp2.com/SMF20/index.php?topic=9770.0Paladins are poised to be as good as they've been in quite some time. I am rarely bullish on Furman basketball, but the program is really starting to make strides that began with the strong run through the tournament this winter. I believe we return every player but one senior reserve, and have added a strong recruiting class and transfer from Duquesne.

Chattanooga was 115. IMO, that sounds about right (in the preseason)...Wofford and/or Chattanooga as the preseason favorites, with Wofford having a slight advantage over Chattanooga. Both return a lot of firepower. Wofford lost more key players while Chattanooga has a brand new coach with a nice pedigree, but no head man experience.

I meant to say that there wouldn't be anymore SoCon teams. And I agree, it should come down to Nooga and Wofford. If Wade had not left, UTC would have been a consensus preseason favorite to win the conference. So, do Chattanooga fans want Wade to succeed or fail at VCU? I personally would like to see him go down in flames. VCU fans are a bunch of punks.

www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25331040/cbs-sports-2015-16-ranking-of-every-college-basketball-team-from-1-35166. Wofford: Go ahead and look at what Mike Young's put together with this program. The Terriers are legit. No transfers and major players (Spencer Collins, Justin Gordon) back on an NCAA Tournament team. There are always a couple of mid-majors who absolutely become top 70-good, and Wofford fits that this seaosn. 175. East Tennessee State: Steve Forbes takes over a totally revamped roster in Johnson City, and could legitimately make a run to the league's title after bringing in a group of high-major athletes to the SoCon. 184. Chattanooga: Dealing with a coaching change sooner than expected, as Smart taking the Texas job prompted VCU to hire Smart's old assistant, Will Wade. Wade had a good two-year run at 'Nooga, but now Matt McCall is running the show. 228. Mercer: The Bears figured to have most of their roster back, but then their best player, Ike Nwamu decided to transfer to UNLV. Without him, Bob Hoffman will rely heavily on an experienced backcourt of seniors. 234. Western Carolina: It's an experienced group for the Catamounts that will feature four seniors in the starting lineup. They'll have to make up for James Sinclair's graduating 19.4 points per game though. 262. Furman: After a lackluster regular season, they nearly beat Wofford for the NCAA Tourney bid. They return a lot from last year's group, and Niko Medved is well-regarded as a coach. 267. UNC Greensboro: Tevon Saddler and R.J. White is a fine 1-2 combo at the SoCon level. 294. VMI: Duggar Baucom's regime is over. Under him, VMI was the fastest team -- by a mile -- in college hoops. Now Dan Earl takes over ... with a roster not build for his style. There will be a big transition phase. 296. Samford: Sam not Stan! The roster turnover here has us hesitating to be any more optimistic about Scott Padgett's team. Yes, Scott Padgett, former Kentucky Wildcat, is the head coach at Samford. 336. The Citadel: DUGGAR BAUCOM ALERT. The “loot and shoot” moves to The Citadel this year, where his team will run, and run, and run some more up and down the floor. HIs VMI teams only finished outside of the top-10 nationally in pace once.

USA Today predicts the Bears will finish fifth in the SoCon behind Chattanooga, Wofford, WCU and Furman.

Would have been top 3 with Nwamu. Top 5 w/o sounds about right.

Just for fun, Elon is 268, GSU is 272, and App St is 274. So no big loss in basketball that these three teams moved on.
Davidson is another story. They won the A-10 regular season last year and received an at-large to the NCAA tourney. Ken Pom has them at 46. Wise move on their part to move to the A-10. They are excelling in the Top 7 basketball conference with mostly SoCon recruits.

Nwamu transfer hurts but we bring in SCAR transfer Desmond Ringer and JUCO guy Andrew Fishler, giving Mercer a couple legitimate big men. A year of experience will do Strawberry a lot of good and Jestin Lewis has adjusted well with the jump from JUCO to D-1. Do not sleep on the Bears. They are poised to be really good. Jelks should be a leader on the team this year and of course you have a couple seniors in Bryan and Leonard who will provide some real veteran leadership. Hoffman is still probably the top coach in the SoCon right now so with a year under their belt they could could compete for the crown this year. They didn't do to bad last year considering they lost 7 guys and 5 starters from the year before.
