Anyone excited about Macon's new hockey team? Home opener is Oct 23, which is the Friday before Mercer football hosts VMI. Could be a nice weekend. Minor league hockey and FCS football !

I didn't even know they were getting a hockey team. The Macon Whoopee were there when I was in school. Back then you could get 20 seats in a box on the glass and a keg for $400. lol

Anyone excited about Macon's new hockey team? Home opener is Oct 23, which is the Friday before Mercer football hosts VMI. Could be a nice weekend. Minor league hockey and FCS football ! The 1670 Morning Show Tweeted that they wanted questions for the Head Coach when they interviewed him on the air this week...and I asked them to ask him if they were thinking about tying in to the VMI game, which is also MU Homecoming, for any kind of cross-promotion or something. They didn't ask him that. I guess maybe it's not his area...but I would LOVE to go on Friday night...and maybe Mercer could benefit from something like giving $2 off if you bring your Mayhem ticket stub to the game the next day...y'know...something. If I go on Friday, I'm going to take the Football Families and ask for the beardownmu Special - 20 seats on the glass and a keg for $400 - that's a GREAT deal and would be SO MUCH fun... So...I grew up in NC and have never played in a hockey game of any type in my life...and I think hockey is, without comparison, the best live spectator sport there is, if you are close to the action. When I worked in Philly, my company had box seats for Flyers games when they were good AND HUGE on their front line. IT was BANGING!!! I hope the Mayhem can catch on in Macon...college kids would love it...they should really be trying to get Mercer students involved IMHO....

The Mayhem should definitely be at the tailgating festivities for Mercer's first few home games.
The time might be perfect for hockey to catch on long term in Macon, if the Mayhem promote it properly.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about the recent mayhem at the Macon Walmart.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about the recent mayhem at the Macon Walmart. Hmmm....maybe that WAS part of a very strategic, multi-part, guerilla marketing promotion they are running. You know - kind of a new twist on some of those Flash Mob promotions that were popular a few years ago.

Did anyone make it to the home opener for the Mayhem? I couldn't go myself.
Reported attendance was just above 3,000. Tough to compete with high school football.

I went to the opener. The people who are in charge of journalists and passes are really great. They got me and my photographer press passes with no hesitation and it was a really fun atmosphere. I got to do a couple interviews with the announcer and officials, the team is very open access from the journalists point of view so that's always nice. The Mercer Cluster plans on doing some type of coverage of the team throughout the season. The team is still winless but have lost a couple games in heartbreaking fashion (it's something in the water in Macon I guess) it was great to see so many people out there. I plan on attending the game on Halloween (today) and hopefully they will get a win. I do hope it catches on with more Mercer students. I know one of the interns is a mercer student and quite a few of my friends got tickets to home opener. Prices are bad around $18 at the most so it's a not that bad but they are competing with high school football on Friday nights and Mercer football on some Saturday nights so I think attendance might down during this time of the year.
