First off, thanks for stopping by! Hopefully we can keep a steady conversation going. Now, I just want to cover a few minor ground rules we need to try and stick to: 1) Be respectful of one another. I know, it's a sports board, and that doesn't mean you can't mix it up and have disagreements. But let's not get personal or nasty. 2) Please try and watch the language. I can create a censor list, but I really don't want to. Just remember that there may be people on here that don't want to read potty mouth talk. Understand, ********? 3) Be respectful of fans from other schools. If the board gets big enough, we will get people from other schools. (I'll hang out occasionally on the Furman board). Again, it's OK to mix it up, but let's be civil and show our guests that Mercer hospitality. 4) Please try and stay on topic. Again, I know things will move around, but stay on point or feel free to create a new thread. 5) Remember that players and parents of players will probably be on here as well. Let's respect them. I'm not saying we can't be critical or talk about things we see, but remember these are young men working hard for Mercer and each other, and parents who love them. I would rather not call players by name if it's negative. Also, lets please not speculate or share information about injury specifics unless you are the one who got hurt and want to share. We need to respect their privacy as much as possible. 6) NO SPAM!!!! 7) Have fun! This is a great time for Mercer athletics. Let's live it up! Mind you, we reserve the right to remove posts or even expel users if things get out of hand. I'm sure it won't come to that, however. Go Bears!!!!

Just wondering what the NooB Bear and Baby Bear designations mean. Are these based on the number of posts? Are there more designations? Inquiring minds want to know?

Mercer was originally founded in Penfield, GA in 1833, as an all boys school. It wasn't until 1871 that Mercer was moved to it's current site in Macon. Every year, Mercer offers a "Pilgrimage to Penfield" where they provide transportation and allow Mercer students to see the university's original site and learn a bit more about its history. Josiah Penfield made an initial gift of $2,500 and challenged the Georgia Baptist Convention to match his gift in order to found the school. Jesse Mercer was instrumental in the matched gift, and Mercer Institute was born. It was renamed Mercer University in 1837. Thus endeth the lesson.

And, just like history repeating itself, you will soon "move" to the Spires of Macon!

BearDownmu, Stock up on the Excedrin, as you try to maintain a civil board! I've managed to keep it somewhat of a secret that I am a 'mod' on our board, but those that are well known, and certainly the admin, get's dragged into all manner of spats and complaints. That said it is fun and people, both from our board and our visitors generally play nice. We had to on our board make a no Auburn, no Alabama discussion rule, unless SU is directly implicated. Threads about the evils and virtues of the big schools range from tedious to downright nasty, and since it is our board and not theirs, it is a bit demeaning to the purpose of the board. Not sure if Georgia and Tech fans are as obnoxious in their support, but you should beware of the FBS interlopers...they're everywhere!

We are so new we haven't gotten any of that yet. I'm still just trying to get the word out to people to come on here and talk. Also, I will say, that for the most part Mercer people (at least pre-football) are almost exclusively UGA fans. You get some Tech and the other SEC schools in the vicinity mixed in, but my experience it's mostly UGA. We are still working hard to get people to put Mercer tags and plates on their cars other than UGA stuff. Thanks for the advice! I hope it gets busy enough on here where I need that Excedrin. Would be a nice problem to have.
