The construction of the fountain has begun. If anyone hasn't donated to the effort, you can here. Those who recognized what a restored Tattnall Square Park would mean to Mercer and the surrounding neighborhood should be commended for their foresight. And those who lead the restoration efforts, I say well done. A park of Tattnall Square's beauty will hasten the gentrification of the surrounding area and Mercer will benefit immensely. Eventually, I see the area around Tattnall Square, including Beall's Hill, will be in high demand.  |

I work downtown and a visiting consultant (lives in the midwest) was quite complimentary of the area. Having worked in close proximity to the Mercer campus for nearly 25 years, it is clear the downtown and neighboring areas are making a remarkable rebound. Even five years ago it wouldn't have seemed likely to receive that type of unsolicited, positive comment from a visitor not familiar with the area.

Just go to Google Maps street view (last updated August 2012) and take a look at the area around Tattnall Square and Beall's Hill. The progress is evident.

The changes to Tattnall Square Park have been most impressive. Once an eyesore and a little sketchy, TSP is now a playground for families and Mercer students and staff. All involved in this transformation should be thanked.
