For those of you interested in traveling to an away game, Furman is a great choice. I certainly feel of all the SoCon teams so far, they are (to me) the most natural rival. For a number of reasons. Plus it's a beautiful place with great fans and football tradition. That being said, looks like Mercer has listened to a few suggestions and is going to be hosting a tailgate at that game. It will be from 11a until game time at Tailgate Spot #9 Game tickets are $10 and the will be serving food for $12 per person. There is an online registration link which you can find on the Facebook post for the event. Here's the link. www.facebook.com/events/1682647671955575/

My Alma Mater has done a great job here! I have to confess that I've been (secretly) working with Elizabeth Mobley, Admin Asst for The Paladin Club, on this a little bit. My role in all of this was begging and complaining (stick to what you're good at) and she and Dwight Covington, Director of Athletic Ticket Sales at Furman, have led the charge there to provide an excellent Visiting Fans Game Day Experience. This is a beautiful, accessible, and convenient location for a Tailgate. The food from Tommy's Ham House is unbelievable - it's where the Bears eat any time they pass thru GreenVegas. They've also put together a highly informative page for visiting fans. Worth taking a look at. Paladin Stadium Visitors Guide Page Photo Gallery of Tailgate LocationAlso - The Mercer Alumni Association is really getting ahead of the game by taking advantage of this, putting together a wonderful Saturday, and getting the word out early. In the past, the Mercer Alumni Association, who really is new to the Football Event 'game' has duplicated their Alumni gatherings at cool restaurants/bars in 'Away' cities that certainly has worked well for them with Hoops and other Alumni Events. But, it seems like with this announcement, they have 'figured it out' - Away Football Events are great ways to do Alumni 'Friend-Raising'...if you do it AT the stadium, where the people want to be...and do it right. I hope there are many more Football Events such as this in the future...so, hoping for a HUGE turnout by AlumniBears for the @ FU Event!!! Sign up today!!!! Admittedly biased, but you won't find too many better spots to watch a football game than Greenville, South Carolina in October.
You could do a lot worse than having to go to road games in Birmingham, Greenville, Chattanooga, and Charleston.
