Hello Bear fans. I post often on Peaymania and your very own FuBear invited us over and I saw no one has/had so I figured I'd venture over. Hope some of you will make the trip up to Clarksville for the game as I don't think you'll be disappointed. Plenty of room to tailgate, plenty of nearby restaurants rather it be downtown or on Wilma Ruldoph Blvd off Exit 4 on I-24 and a brand new stadium that was just finished before last season that is one of the best in the FCS. I'm sure most of you will be sitting on the visitor side which was redone a little but not to the extent of the home side, but I hope some of you will be able to venture over to the home side as it is very impressive. Especially for a program that is known for not being very good in football but hopefully this new stadium and new football offices in the next couple of years will change that.
Anything you need to know, feel free to ask as I've lived in Clarksville my entire life so I'm positive I can answer those questions for you whether its where to eat or stay or anything about the game.
Looking forward to the game Saturday and last but not least.....Let's Go Peay!!

Thanks for stopping by APSUfan. I'm sure there will be some orange dotting the landscape on Saturday. Looking forward to another year of college football.
Very much appreciate the info!

Guess this is a good thread to post any pre-game info... Austin Peay's Game Notes for 9/5 Game vs. MercerAustin Peay's Head Coach - OVC Weekly Teleconference - says at 1:20 that it will be "easier" playing the Bears this year...I just compared APSU's 2014 roster to their 2015 roster and they are an amazingly balanced team - They have 47 players remaining from last year's roster. They lost 47 players on last year's roster. And, they have 47 new players on this year's roster. Those are BIG numbers for a non-startup program. Of their 47 new players, 8 of them are Transfers - 4 FBS Transfers, 1 FCS Transfer from a Top 5 Program, and 3 JUCO Transfers. In looking at their returning players' HT's/WT's, interestingly, many (I'd even say, most) of them shrunk an inch, sometimes 2, but most of them also gained 20 or more pounds. Only a few position changes among returning players - mostly the usual fare, DL to OL, WR to DB...BUT...looks like moved about 4 or 5 guys to TE...WR, RB, 2 DLmen, etc.....so I think that probably tells us something. Either the cupboard was completely bare at TE OR they are going to a 2 & 3 TE set ala Wisconsin or Stanford and more of a power running game rather than the fairly spread offense that they ran last year. I show the top 2 TE's on their 2-Deep were D-Linemen last year, so I think they wanted to get BIGGER at that position for a reason. With their big RB, who hurt the Bears last year, that makes sense...other than the fact they are only returning 2 Starters on the O-Line. Should be interesting to see what they do on Offense. From their game with Mercer last year, they have 3 Returning Starters on Offense - a WR, an OT, and an OG From their game with Mercer last year, they have 7 Returning Players on their 2-Deep Offense From their game with Mercer last year, they have 5 Returning Starters on Defense - a DE, a DT, both LB's, and a CB (who is now listed as FS) From their game with Mercer last year, they have 16 Returning Players on their 2-Deep Defense NOTE: They did have a Starting WR last year, who is now starting at Weak Safety. He is not counted in either the Returning Starter or 2-Deep numbers shown above. Difficult to describe their returning Specialists. I guess I'd say their back-up PK and their Starting PR are the only returnees. So, for better or worse, this will NOT be the same APSU team that Mercer faced last year. The Defense will be similar, except in the Secondary, which the HC pointed to as the most improved area of their team. One of their JUCO Transfers is a Starting CB and the converted WR is also a Starting DB, so as he cited, they may be better back there and their Defense could prove to be MUCH better in 2015. If their, what I think will be NEW, offense can put things together and not shoot themselves in the foot, which I saw as their primary issue last year and which should be less likely in a downhill power running game rather than relying on the athleticism of a QB, then they might very well be much improved on Offense also. Overall, the only thing I feel CERTAIN about is that they will not be THE SAME as they were last year...though I'm still hoping to see similar results to the ones that I saw last year this Saturday afternoon in Clarksville! ...and besides all that, WHY has no one posted this video here yet? What is WRONG with you people!!!

Yea I don't know if saying "easier" was a great way of putting it. Man has only won 1 game in his two seasons so nothing comes easy for us.

Mercer has 7 Tennessee players on the team and 3 starters from Middle TN plus one on the second team. We will be tailgating on the visitors side (east of stadium), feel free to come over and say hey. I think a lot of the Mercer fans are staying at the Riverview Inn. Once they saw the downtown Nashville hotel rates (starting at $350 a night with UT playing at Titans Stadium), I think they opted for Clarksville hotels.

I saw pictures of it during a recruiting trip in 2012. They were suppose to set up a new weight room as well if memory serves me right.

Yea Riverview Inn is your best bet or any hotel by exit 4 and the mall which is what I would suggest. All your chain restaurants are on the road as well. Stay way away from Nashville. UT game going on this weekend and being Labor Day means some high rates for hotels.

Yes it was fixed well before last season started and it surprisingly didn't hold progress up as far as the stadium getting built from I've heard. And yes from what I've heard since the stadium has been built, that football offices and a new weight room will be built close to the stadium. Will be a lot better than what they have now. As of now they have to share the weight room with other teams at the school. So I'm sure it gets a little crowded. And found out today I have to work Saturday so I'll be lucky to get there at kickoff. We'll see what happens.

Mercer Game Notes vs. Austin PeayNewcomers on the 2-Deep WR - Marquise Irvin, FR - #2 WR OG - Zac Rice, R-FR - #2 LG OT - Mitch Mathes, FR - #2 RT NT - Blake Jones, FR - #2 NT DE - Isaiah Buehler, R-FR - #1 DE DE - Austin Wysor, R-FR - #2 DE CB - Brandon Gurley, R-FR - #2 FC (Field Corner) CB - Stephen Houzah, FR - #2 BC (Boundary Corner) (Also #2 KR & #2 PR) P - Matt Shiel, SO (Transfer) - #1 Punter LS - Steven Nixon, FR - #2 Long Snapper So, 10 NewBears on the 2 Deep & only 1 of those in a starting O or D role, Buehler (who is going to be great!). I think that says a lot about the quality of players that have been recruited, starting with the "Day 1's" in 2012 (9 of 22 on the Offensive 2-Deep (41%), 4 of 22 on the Defensive 2-Deep (18%), 4 of the 12 'slots' on the Specialist 2-Deep (33%)...so 17 of 50 (34%) on the 2-Deep are "Days 1's") AND these 10 NewBears mean A LOT more and higher quality depth than in the previous 2 years. I LIKE, NAY, LOVE THIS 2 DEEP!

They said Alex Lakes was Mercer's only all conference selection. Chandler Curtis may disagree.
