The Bears win 28-7 in Clarksville, TN.
A win is a win is a win, but I told my wife this was the most frustrating 28-7 victory in history. We never really pulled away until late and I can't say I was ever super comfortable.
Big Positives
Alex Lakes had 23 carries for 159 yards and 2 TD including a back breaking 65 yard run in the 4th quarter.
Tee Mitchell had 15 for 101 yards and the dagger TD in the 4th. He also had a 42 yard touchdown catch.
The RBs averaged 5.8 yards per carry.
John Russ had 17 completions to 9 (yes, 9) different receivers. That's a pretty big distribution.
Robert Brown had 4 catches for 52 yards and remains a serious weapon in the passing game. He had a big catch up in the air where he got decked but converted a third down late in the game.
Unless I'm forgetting one, I don't think Russ was sacked. Combine that with two 100+ yard rushers and the OL is getting it done. That unit has been talked about quite a bit and they obviously did some work tonight.
Lee Bennett's INT was arguably the biggest play of the game, stopping AP as they were driving to score late.
We were fantastic against the run. AP ran it 33 times for 56 yards. A 1.7 yard per carry average.
Our new punter had a 42.5 average on 2 punts, and the first one was a corner punt that was very nearly downed at the 1. 42.5 is very good. A 44 yard avg gets you into the top 10 in all FCS.
Looking to get better
By my count, the ball was on the turf 4 times tonight, and we lost 2 of them. With our 1 pick, we were -1 on turnover margin. That can kill you in bigger games.
I don't remember us even scaring the AP QB all night except for the Tosin sack late. We need to get more pressure, which leads too....
The big plays we did give up were in the passing game, and their QB had a lot of time to throw.
Didn't get a vibe like there was a lot of energy, but that's hard to tell watching a crappy internet feed.
Two field goal opportunities (when it was a 1 score game) from 40-45 yards and we missed them both.
Couple of personal fouls in bad spots.
What's everyone else thinking?
