Wofford Game Notes: WOFFORD COLLEGE (2-2, 0-0 SoCon) vs. MERCER (2-1, 0-0 SoCon)I found this info interesting... TERRIERS ON TURF * The Terriers were 1-2 on turf in 2012, with a win at App State and losses at Samford and North Dakota State. * In the 2013 season, Wofford played four games on turf - Baylor, Western Carolina, Chattanooga, and Furman and were 1-3. * In 2014, the Terriers were 1-4 with losses on turf at Gardner-Webb, Western Carolina, Chattanooga, and Furman, plus a win at Samford. * In 2015, Wofford plays only two games on artificial turf - a loss at Idaho and against Mercer on October 3. 3-10 on turf over the past 3+ seasons (.231). That means the Terriers have been 19-7 on grass (.731). Wofford's home field is grass, so naturally they would play more on grass, but I think the sample size is large enough to be significant especially considering the large disparity in the winning %. 3X is a big difference. Maybe they are confused by their house training and just don't like to 'pee a drop' (football slang for ineffectiveness) on the carpet. Also, found this interesting...Over that same time span, the Terriers are 16-2 (.889) @ Home & 7-14 (.333) away from their kennel. Seems that they do much prefer to stay on their front porch. That is, again, a big disparity. Hoping these numbers matter. With the Bears having their Top & 1st Team All-SoCon RB (Lakes), Top Receiver (YTD2015) (Brown), Top Stretch-the-Field WR & All-American Return Specialist (Curtis), and Top All-SoCon DB (Al. Avant) all out or highly doubtful, at best; the Black & Orange faithful will need to find HOPE anywhere they can! I think Wofford is about a 10 point favorite in this game. With those 4 out, I think that number would probably move to north of 20 (or more) in Vegas-ish betting lines.

Early lines have us as an 8 point underdog.

Interesting numbers. Not sure that it makes that much of a difference. A lot of those losses on turf were to pretty good teams. Maybe its the turf, maybe its the opponent.
Wofford is not what they were a few years ago, but still a quality team. They typically run the ball well and stop the run well. Bobby Lamb know what he's doing against the option, though. He's seen it as much as anybody.
Just my observations, but Wofford tends to struggle against teams that can throw it around. A lot of their losses come when teams simply out pace them. They win games when they can get a lead and start grinding the pace down. Not a team you really want to play from down a few scores.

FUbEAR, so do you see Wofford controlling both lines of scrimmage as one of their fans has posted?
"If we are who I think we are, we come out and establish both lines of scrimmage and control the game. I really like the product we are putting on the field and I think we are growing and maturing each week. I think we take another step in the positive direction in this game. I like us to come out with a good solid tough road win and get off to a good start in the SoCon. 31-17."by 19TERRIER19 on Sun Sep 27, 2015 6:07 pm

LOL! Well I would think this would be a direct challenge to the OL and DL. Perhaps you know some of them?

Mercer at least has 1 well-known FCS pundit believing in the Bears.

Injury update...not good...the 'hits' just keep on coming! Awful difficult for a team playing with a scholarship (and therefore a depth) disadvantage to overcome losing these types of players for conference games... HEADLINE: Mercer’s Tee Mitchell takes over starting running back spot against WoffordWe knew Lakes was out THIS week...what we didn't know was... "Lakes will miss the next two games (the Bears play at Western Carolina next week)""On defense, the Bears (2-1) will play without linebacker LeMarkus Bailey, who suffered a strained MCL in practice Sunday and is out a few weeks"I'm sure #6 for WCU will be glad to get this news...

I imagine it is exciting for Mercer fans in these fledgling years. 10,000 fans or so in the stadium and maybe only a couple hundred or less have ever actually seen a real live Wofford football player. Neat to see Mercer welcome all of these "new" programs to Macon and start what will undoubtedly be a long history of football games. Won't be long before all of the Mercer/Wofford games start to run together in your memory Wife and kids are visiting the inlaws this weekend, so I will certainly settle in and watch some of this game. Should be a good one.

I almost saw a real live Wofford player once, but I generally avoid the small dog section of a rescue.
