Because we were 1st and goal from the 4 yard line with 40 seconds to go in the game only down by 3. Frankly, a situation where I generally expect us to score a touchdown and our opponent be down 4 points and have to go the length of the field to score a touchdown in less than 30 seconds. But we gained -2 yards on 3 plays and kicked a FG to go to over time and then missed an extra point to lose by one.
Other than that, no particular reason.

I cant for the life of me figure out how we were even in that place to begin with. SMH. That's disappointing on our side. We have a great opportunity to put the game away and fumble a pitch on our own unforced....those are the types of TO's that can get you beat and almost did to us. Hate those types of turnovers.

I know it is a lot easier to second guess at this point. If 3 power plays had scored, we would be talking about how great a win it was. Having said that, I would have "liked" to see us spread it across the field and make Wofford defend 5 receivers. The passing game was working really well at that point. Perhaps a run on the first play in the series, but after seeing Wofford stacking the box and selling out against the run, a passing play would have been in order. Just my (receiver biased) two cents. |

I think both sides have things in the game that they can look at and say 'if only". Mercer's defense stopped Wofford on the first 3 series and got great field position each time, but only came away with 3 points. Definitely missed opportunities. Then in late 2nd quarter Mercer got inside Wofford 10 and came away with no points. |
