I think it just shows you that the margin of error from being #3 to #7 is very, very small. Not sure where else you can put the Bears at this point. Gonna have to win to move up.

Yes - Chatt and Cit are the only teams that have demonstrated they are CLEARLY superior to the SoCon Teams they have played to date. Chatt has demonstrated they are clearly superior to Samford and Furman Cit has demonstrated they are clearly superior to WCU and Woffy Samford has demonstrated that they are clearly superior to VMI and clearly inferior to Chatt Mercer has not demonstrated that they are clearly superior nor clearly inferior to any team in the SoCon Furman has demonstrated they are clearly inferior to Chatt Wofford has demonstrated that they are clearly inferior to El Cid Western Carolina has demonstrated that are clearly inferior to El Cid VMI has demonstrated that they are clearly inferior to Sammy

Gotta beat the man to be the man. Totally agree. But at the same time I'm thinking that Nobody but Nobody is looking forward to playing the Bears.

I don't disagree with you from an overall perspective. Just from my experience, there are really no "offweeks" in SoCon football. I've never looked at it from the perspective of not wanting to play a team like Mercer. They are in the conference. They are dragon that has to be slayed to accomplish goals. I expect a dog fight every week. That has typically been my experience watching football at least in this conference. Everyone has at least a puncher's chance of winning. I've seen Furman lose to big underdogs before. I'm sure I will see it again.

Just some ciphering that may be of interest... On the average, in their 1st 2 SoCon games, Mercer 2015 has been +19.5 in margin of defeat points over Mercer 2014. Typically, teams receive an 'extra' 3 points from the line-setters and computer geeks for home field advantage. Since those 2 games were 1 home/1 away, that advantage is a 'wash' and the +19.5 'gain' stands as statistically accurate. Let's look at how this plays out for the rest of Mercer's SoCon Schedule, rounding down that 19.5...to be safe. Opponent | 2014 Bears'
Result | 2014
Location | +/- 3
Points | 'Net' 2014
Result (A) | +19 2015 MOV
Improvement (B) | 2015
Location | +/- 3
Points (C) | Projected Bears' MOV (A+B+C) | VMI | +3 | Away | +3 | +6 | +19 | Home | +3 | +28 | The Citadel | -2 | Home | -3 | -5 | +19 | Away | -3 | +11 | Chattanooga | -7 | Away | +3 | -4 | +19 | Home | +3 | +18 | Furman | -5 | Home | -3 | -8 | +19 | Away | -3 | +8 | Samford | -3 | Away | +3 | 0 | +19 | Home | +3 | +22 |
So, assuming Mercer beats ETSU and no other team beats Chatt, does Mercer, with all D1 wins, at 8-3 overall & 5-2 in the SoCon get a Playoff bid?
