The league is supposedly coming to Savannah next year. We lost our Sally League Class A team at the end of this past season.

The league is supposedly coming to Savannah next year. We lost our Sally League Class A team at the end of this past season. Sad to hear. As much as I love minor league baseball, it helps to have a local owner who is invested in the community. So many of these teams are part of a portfolio of investments run by folks looking for the next best opportunity to make more money. They are up and gone faster than you can blink. Columbus has toyed with the idea of courting a team again, but I don't think they are interested in bringing in a team owned by outside investors, plugging a bunch of money into stadium renovations, and then having the franchise up and leave at the next opportunity.

The Savannah Bananas are outdrawing the SAL team we had. I haven't been yet, but there are a couple of MU guys on the team. I thought the team name was horrible, but they have used it to market the team REALLY well. Lots of folks think we need a new stadium in a bad neighborhood here in SAV (like they did with the Ted in ATL and you see where that got them), but think old lady Grayson is just fine. And you can't beat the location.

And you can't beat the location. I think the name is great. Outside of some notable exceptions, many minor league parks are located in some pretty rough areas. Cheap land, I guess. Golden Park in Columbus is a beautiful old park. Right along the river. 415 to dead center with a 20 foot wall. I've heard before where only three players have managed to muscle it over the CF wall (two were Harmon Killebrew and Andruw Jones).
