My mid (SoCon) season rundown, and how it changed since the January 12th edition:
#1 (---) Chattanooga Mocs (19-3, 8-1 SoCon) -- RPI #45
#2 (---) Mercer Bears (17-6, 7-3 SoCon) -- RPI #121
#3 (▲1) Furman Paladins (13-10, 7-3 SoCon) -- RPI #184
#4 (▲1) Wofford Terriers (10-12, 6-3 SoCon) -- RPI #204
#5 (▼2) East Tennessee State Buccaneers (13-9, 6-3 SoCon) -- RPI #131
#6 (---) UNC Greensboro Spartans (8-14, 4-5 SoCon) -- RPI #268
#7 (▲1) Western Carolina Catamounts (8-14, 3-6 SoCon) -- RPI #246
#8 (▲1) The Citadel Bulldogs (10-13, 3-7 SoCon) -- RPI #292
#9 (▼2) Samford Bulldogs (11-12, 2-8 SoCon) -- RPI #240
#10 (---) VMI Keydets (6-14, 1-8 SoCon) -- RPI #330
Chattanooga continues to dominate the conference, however, they've never had a 'SoCon Player of the Week'. Regardless of that fact, they've won 14 of their last 15. Mercer has bounced back nicely with a 3-game win streak after suffering 2 brutal overtime losses on the road. Furman has clearly established themselves as a team to be reckoned with. Wofford is the exact opposite of Samford. Wofford stunk up the joint in out-of-conference play, and now they look all-world in SoCon games. Samford beat Nebraska in OOC play, and now are 2-8 in the SoCon. ETSU is riding a 2-game losing streak, however, it could easily have been worse. ETSU was given a gift of a win by The Citadel (missed free throw to win the game with 1 second on the clock). Since that game, ETSU has been handled easily by Wofford and Furman.
The next few games will really define the top half of the league. Wofford, Furman, and ETSU have to ALL play their next two conference games on the road. Historically speaking, the road team should only win 2-of-6 games in that position. Especially considering that Wofford and Furman are @ Chattanooga for two of those games. Either Chattanooga is pulled back into the herd, or Wofford and/or Furman take a step back. ETSU will be @ VMI and then UNC-G.
Our Mercer Bears will be at home vs. The Citadel and then at home vs. Chattanooga! Looking forward to these games!
