This is getting bad, and that's to be expected when you're on a 5-game losing streak.
UNC-G is up 15 on UTC with under 5 minutes to play. Western Carolina already won today to move to 8-8 in the SoCon. Mercer is now 8-8 in the SoCon. UNC-G would move to 8-8 without a collapse.
One of those 3 teams will fall into the 7th spot and have to play on the opening day of the conference tournament. That would mean an insane 4 games in 4 days to win it all. Yes, Furman nearly did that last year. But I'd rather not see Mercer try it.

5 or 6 is fine. 7 would suck.

If the season ended today, Mercer would be the 7 seed. WCU, Mercer, and UNCG are all tied. WCU has beaten Mercer twice and UNCG once (3-1 against tied teams). Mercer has only beaten UNCG (1-2). UNCG split with WCU and lost to Mercer (1-2). In that scenario, WCU wins the tie breaker over the other two tied teams by virtue of their 3 wins over tied teams. UNCG holds the tie breaker over Mercer due to their win over UTC (the second tie breaker is record against the next highest seeded team). Right now, we know that Mercer, WCU, and UNCG will be the 5, 6, and 7 seeds in the tournament. We do not know what order.

The Bears have to beat UNCG. A lot is riding on that game.

The Bears have to beat UNCG. A lot is riding on that game. It's a big one. I think Mercer will break their losing skid against VMI, who has been fading down the stretch. The Citadel could certainly help them out by dispatching UNCG. UNCG is the better team, but the Citadel is dangerous against anyone with their uptempo style and ability to suddenly get hot from 3 point. I guess as a fan, all you can ask for is meaningful basketball. Last week of the season and nothing is set in stone.

Yeah, unless something wild happens, you'd have to believe that final game determines who get the sixth seed.

Two home games, but two tough opponents.
