I was not expecting this. I am really happy that these guys get at least another game. After a tragic year with the loss of Jabri Bryan, the suspension of two starters, and a bad stretch at the end of the year, I sure this will energize the team. And they get to play together, at the very least, one more time. mercerbears.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/releases/20160310f7v1h2

Just a guess, but I'm wagering the Bears end up going to Charleston to play College of Charleston.
Post and Courier had a piece that CofC was interested in the CIT, but was not interested in traveling to Furman or Coastal Carolina (both of whom have home games in the opening round). Mercer seems like a logical first round match up for Charleston.

pilotonline.com/sports/college/odu-buys-into-postseason-but-is-the-price-cost-effective/article_5fd47fca-8a55-5aa6-9cb6-867799c14ed2.htmlWith the way this season has gone at the end, I am surprised we paid our way into this tournament. Seems like emotionally it would be one of those years that it was good that it ended. Looks like if you host, it is a 30k commitment and anyone can host(it is not dependent on seeding). Now there could have been some back deals from years past where if you host and pay the fee, the next time you will not have to host and save the dough. I give President Underwood credit for putting the money up so we can pad the stats on "postseason appearances" in recruiting. But I would also love to hear how other sports (or academic programs) feel about this excess money being spent. Seems like it would not affect Title IX rules either because it is a postseason opportunity. It is isn't Mercer or Title IX fault that there isn't equivilant tournaments for other genders and minor sports.

But I would also love to hear how other sports (or academic programs) feel about this excess money being spent. Though I don't KNOW anything; based on my observation of Mercer Athletics since 2012, I would be willing to wager this expense will be paid for by donated funds earmarked for basketball AND...more importantly, Mercer will then find a really creative way to turn a financial profit on the deal. Mercer Athletics doesn't just think 'outside the box;' they rip the box off, throw it away, and develop interactive, 3D, holographic packaging instead. I'm sure President Underwood, Jim Cole, Brian Gerrity, Daniel Tate, Bob Hoffman, and many other Bears Leaders already have their cranial wheels spinning on this and will come up with a WINNER!

Looks like it's the Beach Chickens in the first round.

I'm really glad that Mercer gets us into these events. We hear the term "pay for play" all over the place, but that's simply the cost of being in D1 sports. The entire season for all sports is "pay to play", nothing is free and the majority of schools lose money on athletics. Acting like the rest of the season is NOT "pay for play" is silly.

and I really hope we take out Coastal Carolina!!! It still looks like it's 26 teams instead of 32. I saw on twitter they might give 3 teams a BYE in the 2nd round. Interesting development.

It is clear this team should not have been in the CIT. They needed to put this season behind them. Poor judgement on someone's part.
