I think you saw the answer to your question last Saturday. The "1's" played the 1st half and the "2's & 3's" played the 2nd half. Ave Maria play their "1's" for the whole game.(see stats) The "1's" earned their title during practice and have proven their status in several games last year and this year. The only exception is probably the best "1" that we have, and he will be back from an injury soon. If you look at them 'on paper' or as they 'get off the bus' you may question the designations. If you look at them like the coaches do, you will see that the "1's" get most of their blocks by being quicker, smarter, know the plays, know the defenses, communicate with each other, WANT the 'skills' to get their jobs done, etc......... The GREAT news is that the "2's & 3's" get coached up by the 1's and the Coaches everyday. They continue to improve and that may in fact earn the "1" designation very soon. For now, our depth is getting better and better!

Wow, this is wrong in so many levels dont even know how to respond. You need to go rewatch the game. The 1s as you call them played almost the entire third quarter last week. Plus there is constant substitution of the oline through out the game so it is hard to say when 1s or 2s or in. They are about 8 OL that could all get it done with out us really missing a beat.

I beg to differ. When everyone is healthy there are 6 maybe 7 linemen that could get the job done without missing a beat and that is just the honest truth. There are not 8 OL that could get the job done at this point. One concern that I have is possibly the RT. Based off of his performance and his attitude based off of the bone head personal foul he commited. Should he still be with the 1s?

Your entitled to your opinion, I'm not going to call out individual players. I think the entire line has done an excellent job so far this year and hope it continues

Wow - a 'controversial' thread about Mercer's OL - that's cool. BearsFans are becoming real football fans!
Coach Vogt typically 'rolls' in a new set of OT's during the 3rd or 4th series & a new set of OG's during the 4th or 5th series. The 2's (if there is really such a designation) played most of the 2nd half with some of the guys who have not traveled to away games. There really is no group of 3's as those guys are running Scout Team all week. That.'a an important job & the improvement in our D shows how well they are doing that job. Coach has rolled in a new C when games seem to be 'in hand' early. More 'risk' with rolling in a new C due to the snap & they make the line calls. Not always rolling in the next C doesn't say anything about his capability. He has done a great job, just as he did last year starting at OT.
I believe Mercer is leading the SoCon in rushing, passing efficiency & total offense. Other than the 1st 2 series vs. FU (which I expected) & a few plays here & there, the OL has performed well as a unit. That will need to continue AND they will need to continue to get better each week as we move into the 'meat' of the schedule.

Exactly!! Some of the Scout Team OL did get a few plays last week. They work hard and deserve to get in when possible.

The OL has exceeded all expectations in my opinion. They played gutsy vs Furman even though obviously being out-sized. Russ hasn't been sacked much at all this year and our running game continues to be impeccable. I really don't see why there is much concern here at all, the only concern I do have is depth and injuries, but that's something you can't control.
