Coach Hoffman is making some moves in recruiting as we look toward the 2016-17 basketball season. So far there are 3 official new faces on the Men's program:
1) Madison Jones -- 6'1" G -- SR -- Transfer from Wake Forest
2) Ria'n Holland -- 6'0" G -- JR -- Transfer from Indian Hills CC (Freshman year + Redshirt season at Wichita State)
3) Rashad Lewis -- 5'9" G -- JR -- Transfer from Tallahassee CC (Freshman year at USC Aiken)
There's a clear theme with the signings this year. Transfers and guards.

Bob Hoffman announced more additions:
J.J. N'Ganga, a 6'10" center that is a 5th year player. He's eligible immediately and is transferring from New Mexico (sat out last season due to injury).
Mac Brydon, a 6'10" incoming freshman that was announced to be a preferred walk on.
Also of course we have 2 other incoming freshman that were signed last year:
Darius Roy, 6'2" Guard out of Oklahoma
Ross Cummings, 6'3" Guard out of Tennessee

The following was from an AJC article, "the rising senior class in the state of Georgia, as has been noted previously, is loaded. There are 10 players from inside the state’s borders in ESPN’s top 100 prospects (three are already committed elsewhere)." I realize that it isn't likely that MU could sign a Top 100 player, but then again why not? Georgia St. has done it in the past.

I completely agree with this. I think Mercer basketball has done amazing jobs with the talent they have had, but I've always had a tiny question mark when it come to recruiting. An interesting exercise I generally do is look at a signed player and then look at where they had other offers. Certainly gives you a good feeling about their "marketplace" and what "buying group" they are in. I don't think we've done a good job of going after players that are also being looked at by other schools I believe we do and should be competing with. Just a personal opinion.
Particularly in the wake of the Duke win. I would seem that proverbial iron should have been super hot in that next recruiting cycle.

I'm hearing good things from Den about this basketball team. The transfers are looking great and while we might not show up on any pre-season watch lists, I'm hearing we should expect to compete for a SoCon title this year.

The #1 player in Georgia and the 8th ranked player nationally? Ummmm.. doubtful.
