I don't want to hear about the refs. Just win the game.

Make a big deal all you want to about all he seniors on the team. TEN penalties. Yeah the PI on Mike Gray was bogus but the rest weren't. A senior laden team shouldn't do this.

Looks like the SoCon refs got their marching orders. Only one penalty called all night. That is BS.

Their lead running back, #36 Renew had 146 yards on 27 carries. Take away that 70 yard run and he averaged 2.9 a carry. That's an amazing job by the defense to shut him down after the huge mistake early.
Of course the penalty situation is going to be a focal point. 10 on Mercer for greater than a football field, and only 1 on Citadel.
Mercer had 50 more total yards, bigger time of possession... however 2 turnovers for Mercer and 0 for Citadel + the penalties + the big rush. That's about all you need to win any game.
What was the word on Chandler Curtis? Injured?

Just got back to SC after a long ride as well in the storm! A few observations: Your stadium id GREAT! The entire set up and layout was awesome. Early on we looked to blow you guys out but y'all held your composure and ended up out playing us. Your defense slowed down out TO by stacking the box. On several occasions all 11 where within a few yards of the line of scrimmage . That works, but also cost you the game on the last drive with the completed passes since you had no dbs defending the pass. Risk vs reward and it worked times than not for you. But like most Socon games the winner is the team with the fewest mistakes and turnovers and this is the only reason you guys lost. I predict last night very well may have been for the SoCON title if UTC is a little down after losing their best player in years. Time will tell. Your guys make a great addition to the SoCON and appear to be dong things the right way! We had your team 3-4 years ago that always played close and could not win. Your time will come and it may be this year. It would not surprise me in the least if you guys play GT much closer than many expect. Good luck the rest of the season and I hope you guys come in 2nd!

Looks like the SoCon refs got their marching orders. Only one penalty called all night. That is BS. Interesting that The Macon Telegraph Sportswriter, Daniel Shirley, said on his radio show that some of the refs Thursday night were worse than High School refs. This is not a common thing for a sportswriter to say. So Citadel fans can call it whatever they want, but the disparity was obvious.

Example of horrible call: After Citadel kicks a FG to go up one in the fourth quarter. Mercer completes a 6 yard pass for the first down on their first series. The Defensive Back Judge who is 7 yards away from the line of scrimmage calls a Mercer TE for being on the line of scrimmage and covered up. On the replay the TE is clearly a yard back from the Wide Receiver and not on the line of scrimmage. The defensive back judge ref throws the flag after the play is over. This is NOT even his call. This is the line judges call. This ref can NOT even see who is on the line of scrimmage and who is not on the line of scrimmage. He is 7 yards deep in the defensive secondary. This call killed the Mercer drive.

This call killed the Mercer drive. My replay hiccupped right at this point, so I couldn't see the alignments, but it did look to me as if a couple of officials communicated with each other before they threw the flag. This would make sense, I think, as the one (SJ or LJ) can (theoretically) see the alignment and the other (BJ or FJ, I guess) can see (theoretically) if a a covered player is downfield. And the flag shouldn't be thrown until after the pass is away, because it's not a foul unless a forward pass over the LOS is thrown. So, I think the (BJ/FJ) also threw his flag once the SJ/LJ did...which I guess is OK. I'm not an expert in Officials' Mechanics, by any means. But, I could not see the TE's alignment, so I don't know if the call was correct or not; but I think the mechanics/logic may have been. If you want to see a REALLY BAD & especially damaging call (and this is, hopefully, the only one I'll 'cry' about (publicly) - because the error of it was about 40 yards; drive sustaining instead of drive killing, and led to a Bellhop TD...immediately after the series in which Mercer was called for 2 Major penalties, which nullified a TD (32 yards & 7 point Net Loss) AND a run to the El Cid 4 YL (20 yards Net Loss leading to settling for 3, instead of 7)...so potentially, an 11 point 'swing' in those 2 series, alone), THEN....check out this play...from the Bellhop's drive that began with 7:44 remaining in the 1st Quarter: 2nd & 7 @ CIT28 - Cam Jackson rush for 17 yds to the CIT45, 1ST DOWN CIT (Kyle Trammell), PENALTY MER personal foul 15 yds to the MER40, 1ST DOWN CIT.So, watch the play - Jackson makes a nice run to the left and then DB Michael Gray has him in his sights to make the tackle, BUT a Bellhop OLman comes all the way from the backside and blocks Mr. Gray square in the back - out in the open, in front of the official, who had 'extra opportunity' to notice since Mr. Jackson then cuts behind this illegal block and picked up more yardage before he was tackled. Now, as he's being tackled by 2 other Mercer Players, he brings his own right arm up near his helmet as he's falling forward...and the Ref calls a Facemask penalty on Mercer. Neither of the Mercer tacklers were anywhere near his Facemask. Thus, we have 1st and 10 on the Mercer 40 instead of 2nd and maybe 14 at The Citadel 21 - if the correct call had been made and the incorrect one had not...almost a 40 yard NET error. Just REALLY HARD to overcome that.
