No love for the Bears in this week's FCS coaches poll. Not even in the "others receiving votes" section. And Mercer's only non FBS loss is by 1 point to now #9 Citadel. I bet if last year's feat against the Mocs is reproduced that will change. It sure better.

But...RealtimeRPI has the SoCon ranked 13th of D1 conferences, second in FCS. That's great news. Chatty is tops at 88, ahead of Texas, Illinois, South Carolina, and Duke. Not bad. Mercer is 178, 5th in the SoCon. We shall see. I think all of us on here think the Bears are a lot better than that.

In the FCS Coaches poll Tennesse Tech is ranked #30 with 20 votes (points) ahead of Wofford (5) and Mercer (0) and just behind Samford (25). Are the coaches smoking something? Are they just voting for friends? Tn Tech is 2-3. In addition to losing to Wofford and Mercer, they lost 44-23 to UT Martin (0 votes). Maybe the coaches voted for Tech mistakenly thinking they were voting for Tennessee State who is 4-0 and only got one more vote then Tech. If so that is even worse. If the coaches are going to pay so little attention, then quit having the poll. It is worthless. For comparison, The Massey FCS Composite (34 computer rankings) has Tn Tech 78th. The highest is 56th and lowest is 96th. All out of 125 FCS teams. |
