Southern Pigskin has Mercer ranked in the Top 20 of its "Way Too Early" poll. That said, they have the Bears ranked 5th in the SoCon - same spot they finished in 2016. 6 SoCon Teams are ranked in the Top 25. With this kind of pre-season respect, I can easily see AT LEAST 4 SoCon Teams in the Playoffs again this year. 5 is definitely possible and 6 should be a SoCon 'stretch goal.' Your thoughts on all of this? Southern Pigskin's Robbie Ross Releases His Way Too Early Top 25 for the FCS1. James Madison 2. North Dakota State 3. Eastern Washington 4. South Dakota State 5. If the "way to early" SP poll had any credibility, they lost it all by putting KSU at #25.

Nope - from the amount of column inches and glowing praise that the AJC has heaped upon KSU the past 2 (or 3) years, they must have won HUGE and they must be the only FCS Program in Georgia.

Yeah, I'm not clear on "Guest"'s post either. I can't tell if you're saying that's too high or too low...

I don't know. They were #39 Massey Rating at the end of the season (Mercer was #36). They won 8 games and didn't really lose any players, did they? And they had a bad opening day loss to ETSU, but their other 2 losses were to ranked teams.
I mean I get that it's probably a stretch, but I don't know if it's a huge stretch.
