But what if Auburn still had Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, and Terry Beasley? Or my uncle James Warren who played tackle both ways on their 1957 national championship team and was academic all-SEC?! Exactly! That's the other name I was trying to remember, James War(Eagle)ren.

Two of his Harrison High School teammates — offensive tackles Eric Allen and Trey Iorillo — were a part of Mercer’s 2017 class. Auburn quarterback Justin Fields got to know that coaching staff and even visited before the spring of his junior year when his recruitment, still not to the extent it is now, began to pick up. “I think it was before spring last year, I just wanted an offer from Mercer,” Fields told SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi www.seccountry.com/auburn/auburn-recruiting-mercer-justin-fieldsAlmost every word of this article makes me want to hurl. It typifies everything that is so FUBAR about recruiting of student athletes. Seems like a different era. A lot of these guys seem to try to leverage offers against one another. I'm constantly amazed that these recruits can play on Friday night, and can tweet out their highlights on Monday.

Think Mercer wins if they still had Russ at QB. But what if Auburn still had Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, and Terry Beasley? I think we could handle Bo these days.

When I watched the live broadcast of the Mercer @ Auburn game (I had to be at UGA Game for Wife & Daughter - Go AOII...sorry), they had a sideline report BEFORE THE GAME STARTED and the reporter, very excitedly, said something along the lines of, "Jim, all of the Auburn Coaches (and he named a few) are down here on the sidelines telling all of the backups to be ready to go in early & often. They are planning to clear the benches before the end of the 1st quarter, Jim."
i watched the replay on the SEC Network & the replay available on ESPN Watch last night and this pre-game sideline report was not included/was removed from those broadcasts. I wanted to record and post it. Did anyone record the original broadcast & have the ability to record that segment from that broadcast & post it here?
One of my favorite parts of these games is seeing/hearing all of the stupid stuff Coaches/Players/Fans from FBS School say about these games BEFORE the game. In 1983, Bill Curry was quoted in the AJC, on the Friday before GT hosted Furman, saying his starters would only play the 1st series & he planned to have ALL of the back-ups & walk-ons in the game in the 1st half. That article was well-circulated & well-read in the Furman hotel Friday night. Furman beat GT 17-14. GT's starters, just as Auburn's did, played the entire game and WELL-KNEW that they had done so on the following Sunday morning.

Cool article - Real "Insiders" view of Mercer's Prep for Auburn. Done by AL.com...but not too many stupid comments in there. My favorite quote in the article is from Mercer's D-Line Coach Baker... "I don't care if we're playing Auburn, we're playing LSU, I don't care if we're playing the damn Falcons," Baker says. "Don't think. You're prepared, you know what to do. Play fast, play physical."
Now, that's a man who was truly EXPECTING to WIN on Saturday...and EXPECTING his Players to EXPECT to WIN...and that's how they played...as if they expected to WIN. Makes all of the difference in the world!!! Behind the scenes with Mercer, the FCS team with the 'Iron Bowl schedule,' as it prepped for Auburn...and this really cool video... Nice photo album in this article also. Anyone want to try creating a caption for this picture that's in the photo album there?

Interesting Stat...
"Auburn football has made a tradition under Gus Malzahn of pounding non-Power 5 opponents into the ground with its rushing attack. Last season, the Tigers rushed for: 462 yards against Arkansas State 410 against Louisiana-Monroe. and 451 against Alabama A&M.
Against Mercer, though, they put up just: 146 yards on 43 carries — a measly 3.4 yards per rush."
The Bears Run D is STOUT. 1 long (57 yards) run by Wofford in 3 games is pretty salty
