Stop trying to make FCS polls make sense, you'll drive yourself crazy. lol.
We win the rest of our conference games, we'll be on there somewhere.

Generally speaking, it has long been the policy of most voters that you aren't docked for your performance against an FBS program. Mercer played and lost. Samford played and lost. Mercer is 1-2, Samford is 2-1. Also, it is also a truism that it is much harder to climb the polls than fall out of them.

Mercer moved up about ten places in the Massey FCS Composite from low 40s to low 30s. Human Poll vs. Algorithm BTW - I was at the Samantha @ UGa game. No fight whatsoever out of Sammy's D or O-Line. I thought they were gonna start asking Georgia's Players for their autographs. I was fortunate to be given 50 yard line, "scholarship tickets" for this game. I sat with some very nice Auburn fans. They were clearly and justifiably frustrated but very complimentary of Mercer. My observations: Mercer did a great job tackling. Rarely did Auburn break a tackle. Mercer seemed very disciplined on defense. (except for the targeting penalty, but when the RB ducks his head, I think he is partly responsible). Mercer just did not make many mistakes. This was the biggest positive takeaway from the game for me. Except for a couple of passes to Auburn's small WR Hester (?), the DBs played great. We were only rushing 3 most the game and were giving Auburn a lot of time in the pocket. Thomas Marchman was/is a beast! I wish we had 10 more just like him. CJ Leggett was the best RB for Mercer. He wanted the rock and headed down field. I think he earned the starting RB position. Kaelan Riley is still learning. On the sweep option he would pitch the ball before making the DB commit. This happened multiple times. When he did run, it was .....eh..... But I suppose he was told not to hang on to the ball too long and to go down quickly. Several throws were way off mark. I guess the positive is that he wasn't hurt, but I wonder how the Bears would have done with John Russ in there. Oh well. Riley probably grew up a bit on Sat. WR/TEs had a pretty good day. Caught everything that could have been caught but one pass. Auburn was all over our WRs and got called for at least 2 pass interference calls. Could have been 5-6. But SEC refs (?) and all were letting them play. I was sitting with 3 former Bear football players. They were extremely loud, pumped and proud!

I understand that point. But surely an FBS win would be rewarded in the polls. And I would think a "good loss" might be also. I'm not saying Mercer deserves to be ranked yet. They need some quality W's to earn that. I just don't get how they could go from 16 votes to 9 after a pretty close loss to the #15 FBS team unless the voters just see a loss and not to whom or by how much. Wasn't the spread something like 42? I'd say 14 was definitely covering that spread by a long shot.

I just don't think you'll see voters reward a loss. Furman had a similar game against Michigan State last year. Most FCS folks will tip their cap, maybe make a note that your team might be better than expected, but wait on you to win some games.
