STATS has a cool summary of Recruits for all reported FCS Signings - Keep tabs on the recruiting classes for all the FCS schools right here, with constant updates as the commitments roll in throughout the day and beyond. Locate any FCS team in the dropdown box on this page’s upper right-hand corner and click to track that school’s signees.Worth checking out. Here's what SoCon Schools look like...[*] indicates a Transfer. Also, I've bolded the 40 Signees from GA - 16 for Mercer, 5 for Chatt, 7 for Furman, 5 for WCU, 3 for Woffy, 2 for Samford, 1 for ETSU, 1 for CIT. Apparently, Mercer needs to build a higher wall on the borders. CHATTANOOGA |

Is Mercer constrained by the same in-state numbers the University is? I know the student body general is roughly 90% from Georgia. Several of their grad schools have student bodies almost exclusively from Georgia. Does the football have to fill x percentage of its roster from in-state?

Doubtful, but BearDownMU, as former EVP of Enrollment (or something like that), at Mercer would be a much more definitive source for the correct answer here. I know VMI peeps are CONSTANTLY complaining about their In-State Roster Requirement %. If Mercer is (again, doubtfully) constrained, it sure ain't a bad state in which to be such. I know Mercer's med school, for instance, is (or at least was) all Georgia residents. That seems peculiar for any medical school, but it's what Mercer does. The law school has more of a mix, but is still overwhelmingly students from Georgia.
My assumption has been that Mercer has some money tied to the "Georgianess" of its student body.
For instance, I find it peculiar that Mercer has (or had) only one player from South Carolina on the football team. Given Bobby Lamb's 30 someodd years in the state, you'd have thought the Bears would have more than a single player (who is from Greenville, no less). I cannot help but think that is by design instead of just random chance. Their one signee this year is from Aiken, SC, which is on the Georgia border.
Maybe I'm telling tales out of school, I would just expect to see more of a mix of states like you see with Wofford, Furman, and Samford unless Mercer is required to keep some balance.

Per a Mercer Med School Prof with whom I once played golf, Mercer's Med School's mission is providing Physicians for RURAL Georgia. I believe he said they have Financial Aid packages based on a commitment/contract to practice within GA in towns of less than X population for X number of years. In 2012, I know Mercer Undergrad had some low-interest-% FinAid available based upon a commitment to remain in GA following graduation for X number of years. I'm not sure how this is 'enforced' post-grad, perhaps with an interest rate adjustment if the debtor moves out of state. This FinAid did not include a size of town restriction - just stay IN GA. I believe this may have been for Engineering students only, but am not sure. I don't know anything about such situations with Mercer Law or any of Mercer's other broad offerings of higher education. All that said, EXTREMELY doubtful that Mercer Football Recruiting has any such restrictions. Keep reaching though...you'll find some other new way to try to disparage the Bears and/or Coach Lamb. There are absolutely no quotas regarding student body demographics at the undergrad level. Of any kind. I think it just works out that way because we are such a known commodity in GA. Med School is a different story. And, FUBeAR is correct. Students that attend are actually agreeing to practice general medicine in under-served Georgia communities, and you do have to be a Georgia resident.

And I think the current makeup of the undergrad student body at Mercer is about 81% Georgia. 5% Florida. And the rest scattered about 25 or so more states.

Have to feel like that's a good number given the mission.

I'm not suggesting its not Mercer's stated purpose. I'm just suggesting that it often isn't the reality. The lawyer in me says that scholarship you reference neither defines "rural" or "medically underserved." I've found that many folks consider anywhere that isn't inside the perimeter to be bumpkinville anyway, so that seems pretty broad. For instance, according to this (https://gbpi.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Medical-Provider-Shortage.pdf), there are only a couple of counties in Georgia that are not "medically underserved." So, the way I read that, you could graduate residency, live in Cobb County, work at the Cartersville Medical Center in Bartow County a short drive away, and completely be within the confines of the rules. Now, I absolutely expect that there are some folks that become primary care physicians in Blakely, Douglas, or Cordele. I'm not doubting that for a second. If I were from one of those places and wanted to go to med school and then come home, I would absolutely buy in on that scholarship.

Bump - Added 5 new Mercer Signees as well as the 247 Ratings/Rankings Info for Players listed/rated/ranked by 247. Also added the 6 new Furman Signees as well as their 247 info. If anyone would like to add the rest of the info for the other SoCon Schools, please feel free to do so.
Though I put slightly less than zero belief in these Ratings/Rankings, signing 4 3-Star Players in this class (so far) is still a pretty good thing.
NOTE: Sorry no frames/borders with the added Rows/Columns. I blame BearDownMU.

No doubt Georgia is (and has been) a hot-bed for HS football talent. With our updated list, WCU has signed 9 kids from GA (class size is now at 21). That is MORE than the number of kids we have signed from NC.

From the online roster, it appears that Mercer Football is getting back a 2017 6-2, 200 WR Signee, who spent a year in the Boston Red Sox organization ( David Durden - Outfield). DAVID DURDENDurden had offers from Troy (FBS), Richmond, and Charleston Southern when he was a HS Sr. I like his size & athleticism. Could be a nice bit of lagniappe on a strong 2018 Recruiting Class for the Bears. Wonder why they didn't 'reannounce' him? www.hudl.com/v/28dgAa
