I'm no expert by any means. Defense looked good, offense not so much. Punting real good but kickers, 3 or 4 looked like high school kids.

I'm no expert by any means. Defense looked good, offense not so much. Punting real good but kickers, 3 or 4 looked like high school kids. Thanks for posting the info Big Red!!! I haven't seen much about the scrimmage online. My FormerBear was there and told me that it was a 'thud' (in other words - no live tackling) scrimmage. Hard for the O to look too good when they are playing, essentially, "2-Hand Touch." Also, Offense typically lags the D at this time of year...and the D, after going against the same O and O Players rep after rep, begins to learn their 'tells' and they know what's coming quite often - really, most of the time. Not enough reps in a game for that to happen at the level it does in practice after practice. So, personally, I think it's fine if the D looked much better than the O in Scrimmage #2. Now if the O comes out on 9/1 and looks like they did, on occasion (Samford game, particularly), last season...then I will be worried. They do have 2 Kickers on the roster, who, technically, are still HS kids (since they haven't started College Classes yet - oops, maybe they did do summer school - so...oh well...I tried). I am ABSOLUTELY no expert in Kicking, but I have friends who are. They tell me the adjustment from HS (the height of the tee, I think, is the primary difference) to College can be difficult. I just watched their HS Highlight Videos and 1 of them hit a 48 yard FG with room to spare and the other one was putting Kickoff after Kickoff (from the 40 vs. the 35) into AND out of the back of the endzone. So, they are probably just making that HS to College adjustment. Not sure who the other 1 or 2 were. Maybe they were doing some Student Tryouts. Not that uncommon for Kickers. Besides, we know what Cole Fisher can do and I think he will handle things just fine as a Sr. Looking forward to seeing the Aussie slam some of those moon shot/soft landing & rockets over the reurners' heads punts again this year!!! Any other details you noted? Also - thanks for posting!!!! Please register here, if you haven't already. Our host/proprietor is on Injured Reserve right now...so, if he has set up a Registration Approval process, don't be discouraged if it takes a (long) while for that to be processed. He has much more important things to be doing right now...mainly getting himself well!!! And - Please continue to post as a Guest even if that registration process doesn't come thru.

Big Red the punting should be in good hands with the return of Matt Sheil who returns form a couple of seasons ago when I believe he was All-Socon. Last years punter Grant Goupil was hampered last year with bone spurs and i hear hes had surgery during the off season. He is punting well also this fall. Devin Orr has not reported this fall as he is in a class overseas.
Place Kicker Cole Fisher did not dress out 8/18 due to flu like systems. He had a fair scrimmage earlier and did hit the crossbar from 50 (hit crossbar from 54 @ Alabama last year). Word has it he had a real good day Monday 8/13. Freshman Caleb Dowden was having a good fall but had groin issue which side lined him for a week. Caleb returned for the 8/18 scrimmage and might be the leader for the #2 kicker and future kicker next year. Freshman Evan Hodges has not reported yet.
Last years Holder Tanner Brumby after attending spring practice decided not to return this fall. Therefore we are searching for holders again! Gran Goupil(punter) may be the leader there but they may want to red shirt him. Harrison Frost(qb) and Brady Tindal(wr) have been competing for the position and no clear leader yet.
Long Snapper Steve Nixon had a thumb issue last year but is healthy this year and back up Mason Lawing is doing well this fall also.
Kick off return team (#1 all divisions D1-last year in least yardage allowed per KO) have ten returning. Not sure what changes the new KO rule will bring to our game.
I have no info on return specialist, maybe someone can enlighten us.

I have no info on return specialist, maybe someone can enlighten us. Wow! Now...there’s an EXPERT on kicking and ALL thing Special Teams. Thanks for sharing all of this Mr. Bo!! Nothing against Mr. Goupil & I understand the ‘theory’ behind having another K/P be the Holder. I just don’t agree with it. I want someone doing that job who is accustomed to having the ball in his hands on a non-kicking play from scrimmage. Just gives a Team so many more options to fake FG’s & XP’s as well as a better chance at doing something positive if there are any issues with the snap, hold, or kick. I prefer a QB, but a WR or RB, or even a DB that played QB in HS, who can throw the ball (somewhat, at least) are better options. On returns...have they tried WR Edmond Graham and/or RB Rashad Haynes back there? I know both suffered season-ending injuries early last year, but Haynes almost took the opening KO vs. Woffy to the house & Graham showed some burners before his injury. I would prefer that #8 not be used in that role. He’s not going to do what Chandler Curtis was able to do, on occasion, back there, but, MUCH MORE importantly, he needs to devote his Talents to catching many, many balls & TD’s. NOTE: Same message for you that I transmitted to Big Red ... Also - thanks for posting!!!! Please register here, if you haven't already.
