Who we have at QB for this one? In the Press Conference - see posted video - Coach Lamb said it may be "Frosty," that Riley is day-to-day...and, in a surprise to me, he threw in there that "Robert Riddle is day-to-day" If the NCAA ruling on the exemption comes thru in time, FUBeAR is ready to play QB on Saturday. Yes, it's been a long time since he ran the split veer (as a backup QB) in the 8th grade, but he's ready nonetheless. Hey - that's about the same time (school-wise...NOT in actual years) that it's been since "Frosty" started a game until last Saturday...and HE DID GREAT!!! FUBeAR is RUSTY...but ready...put him down as "Day-to-Day" also.

The competition at QB for 2019 should be outstanding, Hopefully no one transfers. Good observation. I don’t think Riley will transfer. He seems, from my view from afar, very happy and entrenched as a Student-Athlete at Mercer University. I suppose, if things don’t go his way with regard to getting on the field in 2019, I could see him going elsewhere for his final year of eligibility in 2020 as a Graduate Transfer. If things go that way, I think it would certainly be understandable and would wish him the very best & be his biggest fan wherever he went. I don’t know how entrenched Riddle is or not. No opinion on that one. I think he has a very bright future playing in a QB-Centric Offense at Mercer. From what I saw, barring injury, he has the potential to be Mercer’s Devlin Hodges. I doubt “Frosty” will go anywhere. He probably came to Mercer for academic reasons and, if you watched the video, you know his Career Goal is to be a Football Coach. Coach Lamb has a LONG LIST of Former Players Coaching in the College & HS ranks. Heck, there are already Former Bears Coaching at NC State, Middle Tennessee, and South Alabama...and 1 is a Scout for the NY Giants. Besides, he has the potential to be a Fan Favorite & a Mercer Folk Hero...sort of in the Kevin Carneveri (sp.?) hoops mode. Haven’t seen anything from this past year’s QB signee, Bryce Lawrence...So don’t know. ...Which brings us to Fromm, the Younger. If he signs with Mercer (never know until the fax machine hums), he could Redshirt in 2019 (while getting PT, due to the new Redshirt Rule); get some spot PT in 2020, push (assumptively) Riddle for the Starting job in 2021, and, possibly, accede to the Starting QB role in ‘22 & ‘23...in his ‘backyard,’ in a QB-Centic Offense, on a Championship-quality Team that will play @ Alabama in ‘21, @ Auburn (where his twin is committed) in ‘22, and @ Ole Miss in ‘23. There are certainly many worse paths for a 6-0 QB coming out of HS.

Link to: Video - Mocs Media LuncheonQuotes from the Luncheon... Bingo Morton, Sr.-WR On winning final home game with the senior class... "It is a big goal, a lot of the younger guys and coaches are talking about wanting to send us out on a high note. For us seniors, it would be so special to get that win." Tom Arth, Head Coach On Senior Day... "Our responsibility is to go out there and play a great game this week. We have to do that because we have a very good team in Mercer coming here. We expect them to be at full strength and we're excited for that chance to get back out there to compete on Senior Day. It's a great opportunity for our program to show our seniors what they really mean to them." On the game plan Saturday against Mercer... "I think every game has its own unique personality and you kind of find that our fairly early on in the game. We want to be as balanced as can be. We want to be able to drop back and throw it when the situation dictates it, we also want to run the ball when that situations dictate that. We want to have efficiency in both of those categories. With how the game plays out, that's kind of up in the air."

Article: Mocs aim to move on after latest tough lossNovember 5th, 2018 by Gene Henley GREENVILLE, S.C. — Even if the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga misses the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs this season, which appears likely, reflecting on the year will show a winning record for the Mocs and at least a three-win improvement from 2017. It will also show how close they were to being even better. The Mocs (6-3, 4-3 Southern Conference) lost 16-10 at Furman this past Saturday, and their only remaining scheduled games are senior day against Mercer (4-5, 3-3) this Saturday at Finley Stadium and a Nov. 17 trip to South Carolina. The hill to climb to a possible at-large playoff berth, while not insurmountable, is steep. "The big thing is, I can't go into the locker room and say I'm not proud of those guys," UTC coach Tom Arth said after Saturday's loss. "The way they fought, they way they believed, what they showed out there, to be able to get stops and get the ball on the ground and give us a chance was really special. We had an opportunity at the end of the game to recover an onside kick, go downfield and score to win, and we just didn't do it." Saturday's game followed a path familiar to UTC this season. The defense was able to get stops consistently, but the offense, though not devoid of good moments, was unable to capitalize on the opportunities. The Mocs had nine offensive series against the Paladins. Six moved into Furman territory and five ended there, but only twice did the Mocs put points on the board. The Paladins' offense did a good job of staying on schedule, putting itself in manageable third-down situations. In the second half, Furman converted on fourth down three times in a 20-play, 64-yard drive that lasted more than 10 minutes. UTC is the only SoCon team that has not allowed 30 points in a game this season, which makes the Mocs' three losses by a combined 20 points hurt that much more. They controlled the second half of their game at East Tennessee State on Sept. 29, but digging a 17-point hole cost them in the three-point loss. They trailed 14-10 heading into the fourth quarter against Wofford the following week, but UTC's offense couldn't take advantage of a defensive takeaway and the Terriers scored soon after on the way to a 21-10 win. The Mocs have averaged 30.7 points in their wins. They have a combined 34 points in their losses. "We had opportunities early we've got to take advantage of," quarterback Nick Tiano said of Saturday's game. "We couldn't get out of our own way. We'd be driving and take a penalty. We had a play to make and we couldn't make it. We weren't clicking early, and then it was too little, too late. "From start to finish, we've got to come out faster. We've got to score more than 10 points. We have too much talent (not to)." For UTC players, Saturday's loss hurt because of the likely ramifications, but they will try to move on, and some of them have special insight into what it takes to defy expectations. Three of the Mocs' starters against Furman — tight ends Gage Upshaw and Jacob Webster and inside linebacker Marshall Cooper — were walk-ons when they arrived at UTC, as were six others who played against the Paladins. Of the 30 listed transfers on UTC's roster this year, 16 came as walk-ons. Their message? We've been doubted before. This is no different. "A lot of us were talking in the locker room, and we were reminded that you never know what could happen. You can't ever quit," said Cooper, who had 11 tackles at Furman. "It's like anything in life. We took the hard way to get where we're at, so we don't quit easily. We just know we've got to let this one go. We can't be upset about the past. We have to come in, work through the week just so we know we did our job next week (against Mercer), then we go into South Carolina and prepare for them. "You know it's never an end until it's finally an end, so we're going to keep working and we're going to figure it out."

Here’s a link to this week’s “Chat with the Mocs” with their Head Football Coach, Tom Arth: Chat with the Mocs 11/7/18It’s an hour long. In the final 2 minutes, they do a ‘detailed’ breakdown of Mercer’s Football Team. Below, straight from the Head Man’s mouth is ALL anyone, apparently, needs to know about Mercer Football. “They’ve had some great games and they’ve had some games where they’ve played not so well.” OK, got it. Thanks Coach.

Game-day preview: UTC vs. MercerNovember 9th, 2018 by Gene Henley UTC (6-3, 4-3 SoCon) vs. MERCER (4-5, 3-3) 1 p.m. at Finley Stadium THE MATCHUPDespite a lack of consistency at quarterback due to injuries, Mercer ranks in the top half of the Football Championship Subdivision in most offensive categories. Three players — redshirt sophomore Kaelen Riley and redshirt freshmen Harrison Frost and Robert Riddle — have started behind center this season for the Bears, with Frost getting the nod last week. Though not nearly as effective as Calhoun High School graduate Riley or McCallie alum Riddle have been, Frost nearly led the Bears to an upset of Southern Conference leader East Tennessee State before they lost 21-18. The Mocs must limit what Mercer wants to do on offense, which if Frost is the quarterback will be run the ball effectively and let Frost — who was 15-for-31 passing for 186 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns last week — throw when necessary. ONE TO WATCHUniversity of Tennessee at Chattanooga quarterback Nick Tiano wore a walking boot earlier this week, but is expected to start this season. The catalyst of the UTC offense, Tiano has thrown for 2,267 yards and 15 scores this year. If he can have any level of a rushing attack, with junior Tyrell Price and senior Alex Trotter able to churn out any yards, Tiano will have time to sit back and pick apart a Mercer defense that ranks 119th among the 125 FCS programs, having allowed 350 or more yards in eight of nine games this season. The Bears' rushing defense is ranked 106th, and their passing defense is 112th in yards allowed and 113th in efficiency. IN THE ENDUTC's home and SoCon finale will serve as both military appreciation day and senior day, with the Mocs honoring active duty personnel, veterans and 14 players. The pregame festivities will be nice, but for a senior class that has experienced two playoff runs and at least one league championship in most cases, a win would be much nicer. Frost is listed first on the depth chart for the Bears entering the game, but Mercer coach Bobby Lamb didn't rule out the possibility of Riddle (66-of-101 passing for 851 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions this season) or Riley (68-of-126, 1,123 yards, 10 touchdowns, two interceptions) playing. Regardless, a pass-heavy attack led by Tiano will lead the Mocs to their seventh win and give the program a lift going into next week's regular-season finale at South Carolina of the Southeastern Conference. PREDICTION: UTC 24, Mercer 16
