I believe, though am not 100% sure that this index is used by the Playoff Committee as one of the 'tools' they employ to determine At-Large Playoff berths. Found out that the Gridiron Power Index is a composite of 7 computer ratings and two polls and thus 9 systems. 8 of the 9 are also in the Massey Composite so there will be a strong corelation between the two.
