Was looking at the roster of the now defunct Jacksonville program. Quarterback Calvin Turner is a junior coming off a first-team Pioneer League performance and was considered a top athlete with potential as a defensive back as well. He is a Savannah-area kid so we may be an attractive option. Would love to see him and a quality blocker from JU (Dane Cordell -69) come to help give the offense some juice.

I also would love to see if we could pull some of the walk-one that are with the Georgia Bulldogs. I scrubbed their roster and they have some kids who could come here and become regular contributors to this team. I hate seeing good athletes not get a chance to grow in the game because they are only focused on a popular program that doesn’t really need their contributions.

I'd love to know where Ethan Hull is going. Freshman at JU, Pioneer League Defensive Freshman of the Year.

DB was from several weeks ago, nothing new there. I think the vibe will be good once he is done meeting with the players, finishing up his staff, and then hitting the recruiting trail.

Reading of some apprehension about the wing-T offense, allow me to express my thoughts. Over the last 30 years, I have broadcast hundreds of games of teams using the wing-T Do not confuse it with GA Tech offense or the wishbone or the veer. It can be as exciting an offense as the player’s personnel will allow without the high turnover dangers of the aforementioned offenses. It is a great offense in the red zone, especially when the power formation is deployed. You can spread the wing-T out to open the passing game although passing out of the power formation can be very effective as well. It has multiple misdirection plays embedded in the formation that can lead to long gainers. The angles set up by the formation assist the offensive linemen which is one reason that many consider the offense as a running offense. And it can be because it is so difficult to defend. You can run so many multiple plays with each one setting up the next out of the same look, it is a nightmare for a DC. Not every team has Trevor Lawrence as their QB. I honestly think it is an ideal offense for Mercer. I also acknowledge this is just my opinion and you know what they say about that.

I honestly think it is an ideal offense for Mercer. I also acknowledge this is just my opinion and you know what they say about that. Correct, it is an ORDER of FOOTBALL as described by TUBBY RAYMOND. Essentially, there are built in ANSWERS for each defensive scenario. It all starts with the Buck Series. You run BUCK SWEEP. This play consists of two pullers. One puller KICKS and the other WRAPS to wall the LB. The frontside pins the defense. All these FANCY spread guys run the BUCK. They just call it the 'Pin and Pull', because it makes them feel better while they drink their ICED CARAMEL LATTE wearing a FAT VISOR and looking over their OVERSIZED call sheet. What stops the BUCK is a DE or OLB charging up the field. The next play would be to counter the charging DE or OLB with the DOWN play. This is a staple of Cronic's offense. As a result of the DOWN play, the DE or OLB has to squeeze the down blocks. This makes the BUCK work again. If the DT are PENETRATING, you hit them with a quick trap play. This slows the interior penetration. Also, if the LBs read guards, a common tactic against the wing t, influence trap will be a tough play to stop. ALL GOOD wing t coaches run the WAGGLE playaction pass in the first plays of the game to ID whether the LBs are keying guards or the backs. This offense is a pain to defend and maximizes the talent of the team. Couple this with line shifts, jet sweeps, 100 or more formations, and RPO game and DC's go on a 3 day BENDER. It will be fun to watch. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A14B9OaI60 Take a look at the line shift at 4:08. Completely out leveraged the defense.

I wouldn't worry about "wing-t" football. Here's a video of Furman's 2017 team, Cronic's year as OC. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGzpQCG68TMThere are some wing-t elements to the offense, but it is a far cry from what you'd see at local high schools.
