"We're excited to have the opportunity to play football in the fall," said Director of Athletics Jim Cole. "We are fortunate to have a highly respected medical school on campus that can process COVID-19 tests and that makes available its leading infectious disease experts to advise us on appropriate protocols to care for our student-athletes and staff. Coach Cronic and his staff have done an outstanding job preparing these young men to take the field, and we are thankful that they will have the chance to compete and showcase their talents."

Big 10 changed its mind about playing. Why can't the SoCon?

Big 10 changed its mind about playing. Why can't the SoCon? Wouldn’t make sense as the rest of FCS is planning to play in the Spring & the NCAA D1 Council just voted yesterday on a plan to hold a 16 Team National Championship Playoff in the Spring. SoCon COULD hold an 8 Conference-only game season in the Fall, working around Mercer’s, CIT’s, Chatt’s, and WCU’s OOC games this Fall...and send their Champion to the Playoffs in the Spring, but that wouldn’t be very conducive to continuity. So...FUBeAR is going to love Mercer’s ‘off-Broadway’ debut with some GREAT opponents this Fall and look forward to a fun & different Spring Season. I was a BIG fan of the USFL playing in the Spring....so I’m gonna go all Retro 80’s VIBE this Spring!

Big 10 changed its mind about playing. Why can't the SoCon? I actually think it will benefit Mercer more to leave it as is. This will allow Coach Chronic to play a bunch of players and develop his game plan before the SOCON season starts. These valuable reps in the fall will serve dividends when the spring arrives with conference play. He will have November, December and early in the new year to correct any miscues and put a competitive product on the field. Be patient, it’s coming!
