After the craziest of years, the Bears are back at it today, @ Jacksonville State. Looks like a lotta rain in the forecast. Disappointing, because I wanted to see what the new look Bears look like in optimal conditions, but it is what it is. Really curious to see what the Drew Cronic O and D has to offer.

Good Luck to the Bears over JSU.

Awesome way to start with the opening kickoff run back. Can’t afford stupid taunting penalties though. That cost us 3 points. I hope that kid gets to sit down and think about it for a little bit.

Early thoughts: 2 sacks from Taylor. When's the last time we had 2 sacks in a game? lol. Offense looked tremendous on the first drive. Small sample size, but really effective. As FUBeAR said in a text to me "Who doesn't like RUNNING THE DANG BALL?!" After all the grousing about the WANG-T... I'll take drives like the first one all damn season.
Don't wanna get out over my skis, but everything looks pretty good at the moment, less a couple of poo poo penalties and maybe 1 or two miscommunications in the secondary.

Back down to earth a bit on Drive #2. Pass pro looked a little leaky. See if the D can stand up again.

Ugh. Tale of Two Special Teams. Open it up with the kickoff return. Then have a dropped snap on a punt that leads to points. Then a dropped kick off that going to be points going into the half time. Potentially looking at being up 1 at the half to being down 9 or 13.

There it is. TD Jax State after the turnover on the kickoff. Just a crushing massive swing in the last 3 minutes of the half. And they get the ball coming back out. Blech.

Army played down today, but still a very respectable showing from The Citadel at West Point today. I’m sure the Bears were paying attention. 14-9 Army.

I know the weather stinks, but special teams is a mess.

Very close as to whether our guy was down before he fumbled, but the refs sure fumbled the review and Cronic’s attempt at a time out. We really had a chance to win this thing.

Look, Jax State is traditionally very strong, they gave FSU a lot to handle last week. Reality is: New staff, new offense, new everything. A ton of turnover with the coaching changes. A ton of changes personnel changes because of COVID. Lotta new players. Weird circumstances this year. We're very young. I saw a lot of things to make me positive on the direction and where we're headed. Two more games this year that will be a handful. Focus has to be, keep learning the systems, get reps this fall, be ready for conference games in the spring. Ton to clean up, but there time for that.

All in all the final score is closer than I thought it would be. JSU is a strong program and I thought we were 18 point dogs. The mistakes I saw are correctable. The D looked much better than what we’ve seen the last few years. I’m all-in for Cronic and staff. Feeling VERY optimistic for the future.
