Jeff Gary plays great defense, rebounds, is selfless with the ball, creates turnovers, has a high basketball IQ, and is one of Mercer's hardest working players. I love the guy. Buuuut, his shooting has been cold since the end of last year- and Leon Ayers has turned out to be a star. If Ayers could step up his D a bit, I think he should be in the starting 5 with Gary/Glisson being first man in off the bench.

Ayers definitely appears to have a very high ceiling. Looks to me as if Coach Gary is working to find the right mix of assets / minutes and cook them into a very spicy roux (he played at TU-lane, right?). Barring (additional) injuries or covid, I think this ‘dish’ just might be ‘cookin’ with gas’ come tournament time. |

Would love to see the Bears pursue Georgia Southern transfer guard Zack Bryant. Was an athletic terror when we played them in Statesboro and could play either point or the shooting guard.
Would also like to see them pursue a HS guard from the Augusta area named Rashad King (Evans HS). Underrated 6’5 kid with handle, shooting and good on-court intelligence

Well - just saw that the high school kid I mentioned is committed to the Air Force. Maybe someone will look at this kid and not let the Aim High squad get a steal of a player.
Same sentiment with the Georgia Southern transfer.

Same sentiment with the Georgia Southern transfer. Is he going to USAFA or AF Prep? There’s a big difference. A lot of those kids leave after a year without going on to the actual academy. The football Bears got several good players that way (Tee Mitchell for example). So he still may not be out of the question. |
