Sometimes I like to find posts I made in January & re-post them in March... Jeff Gary plays great defense, rebounds, is selfless with the ball, creates turnovers, has a high basketball IQ, and is one of Mercer's hardest working players. I love the guy. Buuuut, his shooting has been cold since the end of last year- and Leon Ayers has turned out to be a star. If Ayers could step up his D a bit, I think he should be in the starting 5 with Gary/Glisson being first man in off the bench. Interesting thoughts. Ayers definitely appears to have a very high ceiling. Looks to me as if Coach Gary is working to find the right mix of assets / minutes and cook them into a very spicy roux (he played at TU-lane, right?). Barring (additional) injuries or covid, I think this ‘dish’ just might be ‘cookin’ with gas’ come tournament time.That said...beating Miller & the Spartans will be a TALL order. They are good & he is, without question, a GIANT difference-maker for them. |
