In contrast to Coach Huesman's 'if you don't have anything nice to say, say they're young' assessment yesterday of Mercer's O-Line, here's what he had to say yesterday about his own (younger, by my reckoning) O-Line, "Upfront offensively, they're working hard. We're getting yards based on those guys doing a great job."....and Mercer's 400 yards of offense against WCU was solely because the Bears "...have EXCELLENT skill players and CAN get the ball out on the perimeter" - which, actually, in Coach-Speak means 'away from that sorry O-Line they have' - Trust me, I'm fluent.

I think Fubar is just mad because Coach Huesman was a defensive star around the same time he played offense line at Furman and Russ apparently stole his girlfriend and married her which ultimately resulted in the current SoCon pre-season offensive player of the year.

So... based on Coach Huesman's comment, I wanted to compare Chatt's OL's Age + Experience to Mercer's OL...and while I was at it, I thought I'd throw in Height & Weight. I've assigned what I believe are reasonable values to Years in a College Program and #of Starts to come up with a single Age + Experience Value...and reached the conclusion that Chatt's OL is actually 'younger' than Mercer's OL...and only insignificantly bigger. So...bottom line...in light of Coach's positive comments about every other unit on Mercer's team, I have to conclude that his opinion of Mercer's OL is, "THEY SUCK!" PROVE HIM WRONG ON SATURDAY MEN! Thanks for the stats, most people think the biggest weakness the Mocs have is their OLine. Now we know why...their even younger than a Noob football school.

About how many Mercer fans yall think will make the drive up? Most of them players' families? We had about 500-600 fans at Samford a couple of weeks ago.

But Mercer fans will tell you that we are committing more DAP this year than last year so I don't think it is all due to D1 scholarship teams.

Maybe that happened...and maybe it didn't, but he still has to live with the fact that his offspring is openly a Quarterback and I'm proud to have sired an OL-MAN! Coach Huesman and I did talk about those games during our recruiting visit to Chatt. Pretty sure I rolled him up a few times on 28/29 Base - counter option, backside uncovered OLman clears LB's, flattens out, and puts the DB's heels in the air, usually the FS on the other side of the field, who had pitch responsibility. We were ATHLETES back then! Now, most OL's won't even ask their OG's to reach a 3Tec or their OT's to reach a 5Tec without chipping him with the OT/TE 1st. Regardless of our how our paths may (or may not) have crossed in the past, I can't let him dis the Bear's OLine without calling him out on it, even though he does seem to be a nice guy and has, obviously, done a heckuva job up there!
