9. East Tennessee State (6-0): A lot is said about the Eastern Washington offense, but the Bucs can definitely score, too, averaging 39 points per game.
18. Mercer (4-1): ETSU isn't the only strong team in the SoCon. Mercer has been passing tests and checking boxes. It has another big exam this week against VMI.

B'Mac's (Brian McLaughlin - well-known FCS pundit) Take On the FCS Playoff Picture -- Going Into Week 7
This is a little hard to read/understand, but I believe BMac is now projecting Mercer to get the 6th At-Large bid to the Playoffs (coming in behind 1) Montana, 2) Southern Illinois, 3) James Madison 4) South Dakota State 5) Montana State). Folks, this is rarefied FCS air. Sure, winning the SoCon and not putting anything in the hands of a known-to-be capricious Playoff Selection Committee is clearly the best way to enter the Playoffs, but I’m pretty sure this is the 1st time that a respected FCS journalist has mentioned Mercer ‘in the same breath’ with those 5 nearly-Royal FCS Programs. There are 14 FCS National Championships & Championship Game Finals in that group! For those new to FCS, this is akin to Coastal Carolina being mentioned along with Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State for the CFP bids.
BMac has ETSU winning the SoCon & on the verge of getting a Top 8 seed - another rite of passage in FCS Playoff hierarchy. In FUBeAR’s opinion, this must mean BMac expects ETSU to go undefeated & Mercer to enter their end of regular season match-up with only the Alabama ‘blemish’ on the Bears’ resume. If that happens, and if ETSU wins (11-0, 8-0), in FUBeAR’s opinion, they should be the #1 seed as no other FCS Team would be undefeated with an FBS P5 win, but I guess ‘dues-paying’ is part of the process - shouldn’t be, but is.
SAGARIN RATINGS has Mercer ranked 24th this week & shows the Bears as the “Last Team Out” - in other words the 25th Team to try to sit down in a 24-seat game of Musical Chairs.
But, as he has 8 MVFC Teams & 5 Big Sky Teams in the Playoffs - more than 1/2 the field from 2 Conferences in a 14 Conference Subdivision - FUBeAR is not going to post his stuff. 8 is ridiculous, but it does go toward ‘propping up’ for the Committee the 5 or 6 MVFC & 4 or 5 BigSky Teams that WILL get in the Playoffs…with their 6-5 records, while SoCon Teams with 2 losses sit at home. He has 0 At-Large Bids for SoCon Teams. He also has 3-2 N. Iowa (a Team that does not & will not have an FBS win, and currently only has OOC wins over a Transitioning to D1 PFL Team & a 3-2 BigSky Team that will, most likely, be 3-3 after Saturday) as the #4 seed. Insanity…FUBeAR cannot support passing along this idiocy.
