Spot on Jackal. My money says the Bears get left out and the SoCon only gets the AQ. Word is Big Sky and Mizz Valley conferences are gonna rack up the bids. Hope we are wrong and are pleasantly surprised, but I could see the powers that be not wanting to reward a 10 game schedule. Not sure if they have done it before but if not, I could see not wanting to reward that. I’ve never heard how we ended up with a 10 game schedule. Did someone back out on is at the last minute or did we intentionally do this to ourselves? 10 game schedules aren't super common, but they happen. I think you'll see occasional 10 game schedules in the Southland Conference. The more grave sin, in my opinion, is scheduling Point. Every school has different philosophies when it comes to scheduling. In my view, every SoCon school needs to get away from scheduling NAIA programs absent absolute necessity. While they can produce headline-grabbing results, they do not advance the cause of either the program or the conference.

The non-D1 game is generally to off-set the FBS money game teams play, so as long as you can schedule 11 (or 12 in the eligible seasons) I think it is ok. I have seen three different 7-win WCU teams not make the playoffs, and the most deserving team it was 100% because we only had 6 D1 wins. I for one think it is clear that if ETSU is a seeded and top-10 FCS team, Mercer belongs and is more than capable of winning a game. But as others have posted, now it becomes a pi$$ing match of resumes and imaginary “power” of conferences where a few leagues will get the benefit of the doubt and get 4 or 5 teams in.
I truly hope the Bears get called today. Anybody know if Mercer went all-in to bid on hosting a first round playoff game?

In a few of these other conferences, you could make the playoffs as a bubble team and never even play the best team (and sometimes teams) in your own conference. If Mercer makes the field, it wouldn't shock me to see a first round matchup with KSU and then a return trip to Johnson City.

Well that’s all, folks. But with our young roster and new energy in the program you’ve gottta be optimistic about next season maybe, hopefully being the year the Bears break through.
