60 MINUTES OF FOOTBALL FOR ALL THE SOCON MARBLES! ETSU is flying high & will be favored by everyone (as was Chattanooga), but just a few months ago, these Teams squared off and the result was… #20 ETSU -VS- MERCER Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total ETSU 0 6 0 7 13 Mercer 0 14 0 7 21 …a 21-13 Mercer win, with the Bears leading by 2 scores until late in the game. I know Mercer added Starters QB Payton, WR/RS Harper, JOKER Wroble, and OL Poe in the interim, but I don’t know who ETSU added or maybe they’ve just gotten much better or played badly in this game on 4/10. Undoubtedly, this game will be an AMPED UP War, but anyone who doesn’t think Mercer has a good chance to win just has not been paying attention or doesn’t know anything about Football. Once again…expect Turnovers, Penalties, and Special Teams to have a significant impact on the outcome of this game. If you’d like to compare stats in some of those things, you can do that here… Southern Conference Football - Statistics Leaders

30 minute ETSU Press Conference. Players do a real nice job. They were asked about difference between now & the Team they were (that lost to Mercer) in April. They credited their new Strength Coach with enabling them to FINISH. Those guys do matter. Football Press Conference: Mercer Monday, November 15, 2021Head Coach, IFUBeARO, wanted to say that he was shocked that Mercer was in a position to win the Conference, but he avoided that trap…narrowly. Also, some intimation, much like Chatt’s peeps were so obsessive about, that they actually won an ‘imaginary’ game against Mercer this spring…a game where Kickoff Returns & Fumble Returns don’t count…but he stepped past that by covering his tracks down that road with, “The only stat that matters is on the scoreboard.”…and he’s right. One thing the reporters made sure to do numerous times, while the ETSU HC & Players nodded in agreement, is to talk about Mercer not having any “dudes” on Offense or Defense…no “go to” guys that they needed to focus on. Hopefully, Fred Davis, Fred Payton, Dev Harper, Ty James & Lance Wise, Solomon Zubairu, Isaac Dowling, Yahsyn McKee, Alvin Ward…and others will take that as the personal challenge it does represent.

GREAT Interview with Coach Cronic… Coach Cronic Halftime Interview in Mens Basketball game vs LifeSays Bears will play hard & must execute near-perfectly to win. Lavished huge & sincere praise on ETSU’s Players, Coaches, and Football Program. Didn’t hear much, if any, of that, reciprocally, in the ETSU HC Press Conference posted previously.

Just learned from a reliable source that ETSU will not allow Mercer’s Band inside the stadium. Mercer is still bringing up over 100 Spirit Squad (includes part of the band) Members to play / cheer @ Mercer Fans’ Tailgate Tents, etc. outside the venue. Not many SoCon bands even want (are willing to pay) to travel to away games. Really enhances the atmosphere of college football with both bands in the stadium & performing. I get that ETSU wants to & expects to sell a lot of tickets for this game..but they have overflow seating (berm, etc.)…and could find a way…if they wanted to.

Can't find a way, the tickets are already sold. As of this morning there were less than 150 reserved seats available as of this morning. I too would like to see visiting bands at SoCon games. If you are looking to catch up with Mercer fans inside the stadium, the visitor seating is section x. If you aren't tailgating, Cootie Browns has an interesting menu and Firehouse Barbecue on Walnut Street is a Johnson City favorite. More restaurants in downtown. Weather at kick off around 50 degrees. You most likely have seats on the East side of the stadium and you will be in the sun. Have a safe trip.

Papa FUBeAR would never allow FUBeAR to utter the word “can’t.” FUBeAR suspects Mercer’s President Underwood had that same kind of Dad. If ETSU wanted to, they COULD find a way.

Tough loss. Proud of the Bears. The interceptions, especially the second one when you were about to be in the red zone, cost you the game.

The WR slipped / fell coming out of his break. Still an amazing game by 2 Top-Tier FCS Teams. ETSU should be seeded & Mercer should get an At-Large Bid

Great game, great atmosphere. Thanks for bringing a nice crowd and your spirit squad. Hope those of you who came to the game enjoyed it.
SoCon should get 2 bids (and might have gotten 3 had Chattanooga not lost today).
Would love to see next year's championship come down to the same teams in a championship atmosphere!
Rooting for you guys in the playoffs!

Rooting for you guys in the playoffs! It really was fantastic. I played in the Mini-Dome in prehistoric times & this was my 1st trip back since then. Great stadium. Loud crowds (both Teams). Students fully engaged. Band playing. Fantastic Athletes competing to their highest level from pillar to post. Truly a great college Football atmosphere. Everyone was exceptionally friendly pre & during game…and, unusually, ETSU’s fans were, sincerely, consoling toward Mercer Fans in their words post-game. FUBeAR knows it’s cliche - but in this case, I think it’s true for both sets of fans…you really hated that either Team had to lose this game. Really.

Popped in to congratulate the Bears on a strong showing this season. Most years the SoCon is good for 2 or 3 bids. I think the last time SoCon was a one bid league (outside of the spring) was 2014 when UTC was the clear best team in the conference and the committee left out Samford and WCU as 7 win squads. It's fairly rare, but happens. Mercer's hurdle is their 10 game schedule, lack of any FCS out of conference games, and lack of a "quality win." Their most impressive win is probably UTC, which faded hard down the stretch. So, they'll be in a pool with the other teams nationally that won 6 D1 games, which will include teams that have a signature win over ranked opponents. Good luck to the Bears on the selection. I've sat a few times watching the selection show hoping to see Furman's name flash up. Sometimes pleasantly surprised. Other times disappointed.

My money says the Bears get left out and the SoCon only gets the AQ. Word is Big Sky and Mizz Valley conferences are gonna rack up the bids.

Hope we are wrong and are pleasantly surprised, but I could see the powers that be not wanting to reward a 10 game schedule. Not sure if they have done it before but if not, I could see not wanting to reward that. I’ve never heard how we ended up with a 10 game schedule. Did someone back out on is at the last minute or did we intentionally do this to ourselves?
