Furman just moved up to 12th in the coaches poll. In my opinion it show's the coaches have respect for their hard fought victory and rightfully so; they came into a tough atmosphere and beat a damn good team. Good for them and even better for us as it shows we aren't too far from being in the top 25 ourselves.

SoCon fans might not respect us, but the coaches must. Big 'ole Furman only beat us by 5 and they move up 5 spots in the Coaches Poll? Lol. How many votes did we get???

It is probably going to take a major upset for Mercer to get noticed (not just across the country but even in the South). That is just the way it is. These guys really don't pay that much attention outside their conference. Not a problem though cause Mercer was one play away from beating the #12th ranked team. Probably raised a few eyebrows, but gonna need a W to get any votes.

One last Furman comment before moving on and thinking about Stetson. Reading the Furman Fan page has made me appreciate Mercer all the more. Maybe it will come one day to Mercer, but the negativity on that page was really shocking. I think one of the Furman player's mom even called the Furman fans out on it yesterday. You got to think that recruits may be reading these comments and if they are, that can not reflect well on the school. Especially since Furman and Mercer are probably going after the same players. My experience with the fans at Mercer has been overwhelmingly positive. Maybe we are still in a "honeymoon" stage, I don't know. Macon & Middle Georgia has been so fired up about Mercer football and their enthusiasm and support certainly feeds the team.

They are scared and rightfully so; read this quick article when you can- #1 best value in the south; #4 up and coming school, and many more accolades. news.mercer.edu/articles/2014/mercer-university-again-leads-georgia-institutions.cfm#.VA8MXcJdWSo

First of all, I am pumped about this forum seeing how I had to read Furman's forum all last week and see them projecting a 60-0 blowout. By the way I loved your commenting beardownmu. What is even funnier than their projections is the disdain they are showing this week towards thier current team, and the respect that they gave ours (and also our amazing band). I love what we saw out of our boys Saturday night and one thing became obvious, they aren't backing down from anyone. Furthermore, after reading the after game quotes of there being no such thing as a "moral victory," I have to agree with BearNow and say these boys expect to win. I'm encouraged, Go Bears. Great game. As a Furman fan (and Mercer alum as well), I enjoyed the atmosphere and the outcome, but Mercer certainly made us work for it. A 60 point win was never a realistic prediction in this one. I think this will be a good series going forward.

Though every fan base has its share of morons (be thankful you missed out on App State and GSU's group), our fans expect a lot out of the team this year. There are some that are critical regardless of the out come. You will find that everywhere.

I'm sure that the Mercer football team over achieving vs. expectations has provided a high level of positive fan support, but I think there is something special going on in Macon. The community and campus support has been incredible and it has been extremely positive for Macon as well with the spill-over economic benefit to the city. I think you have to credit Bill Underwood and his vision for realizing the potential. Then once they made the decision to bring football back, they went whole hog and did everything first class. It has snowballed from there.

They have been very successful starting the program and have had great support from the community and alumni. Just like everything else, though, eras of good feeling ebb and flow with time. I lived in Macon for seven years. Just moved about a month ago. I get the impression Macon leadership is finally recognizing the importance of Mercer to the Middle Georgia community. I think continuing to foster that relationship is absolutely critical to both sides. Macon is not Greenville, Birmingham, Chattanooga, or Charleston. Mercer has an opportunity to be the only show in town.

Since there has been some discussion concerning this topic, I just thought I would put the exact quote up from the FurmanFootballMom on the Furman Fan Page:
"It gets really old to log on here before and after every game and see almost pure negativity. Do you all realize that some of the players DO look at this board?"
I wouldn't want anyone to think I was making things up…..

I know you hope we are in that stage because that's the only hope Furman has. Over 12K came to pack the finest facilities in the conference and create an atmosphere that most schools only dream of so that they can watch their freshman, sophomore, and some juniors go toe to toe with the defending champs for 4 quarters and almost beat them. Each year we admit more and more freshman while the Average GPA and SAT score continue to rise, our baseball team has reached top 25 rankings for multiple years in a row, and I do hope you got to see our basketball team on ESPN for the entire month of March. Happy to be here? You wish, we're on a mission and Bobby Lamb is out for blood; enjoy your wins while you can...
