Chattanooga was 115. IMO, that sounds about right (in the preseason)...Wofford and/or Chattanooga as the preseason favorites, with Wofford having a slight advantage over Chattanooga. Both return a lot of firepower. Wofford lost more key players while Chattanooga has a brand new coach with a nice pedigree, but no head man experience. Yes, UTC, of course. I meant to say that there wouldn't be anymore SoCon teams. And I agree, it should come down to Nooga and Wofford. If Wade had not left, UTC would have been a consensus preseason favorite to win the conference. So, do Chattanooga fans want Wade to succeed or fail at VCU? I personally would like to see him go down in flames. VCU fans are a bunch of punks.

A stopped clock is right twice a day. Eventually the prophets of doom and gloom will be right. We will then have to hear for ten years how they predicted it. Or people will eat them when the food runs out.

End of the World porn: "Have you noticed that there is a tremendous amount of Internet buzz about the month of September 2015? Never before have I seen so much speculation about what would happen in one particular month. Some people believe that we will see an economic collapse next month, others believe that there will be some sort of historic natural disaster, and others are convinced that the judgment of God is coming. So right now, large numbers of Americans are stocking up on emergency food and supplies like crazy. Personally, I have never been more concerned about any period of time as I am about the last six months of 2015. Several weeks ago, I expressed my belief that chaos will begin once the summer ends. These are the last days of “normal life” in America, and just about everything that we currently take for granted is about to be shaken." endoftheamericandream.com/archives/what-is-going-to-happen-in-september-2015-why-are-so-many-people-storing-food-and-supplies

I don't know about all this Illuminati stuff, all I know is that there have been two sides at war for thousands of years. Those who want to control others by using the power of the state and those who want to be free of the controlling power of the state. Pick your side.

I did not see the "Reply" at the top. I was only using the "Quick Reply" where there was no way of inserting a picture.

Ex-FGCU, Mercer players ready for The Basketball TournamentThe Basketball Tournament, a mesh of Eagles, who went to the 2013 Sweet 16, and Bears, who stunned third-seeded Duke in the 2014 NCAA tourney, tips off its quest for a pot of gold or gigantic check (however the heck $1 million is distributed) as a fourth seed in the South Region at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Friday night's game between 10th-seeded TMD and 15th-seeded Queen City/VIP at Atlanta's Clayton State. Never heard of this but it sounds interesting. I wish Langston Hall luck.

construction.mercer.edu/mu-construction/macon/undergraduate-sciences-building/images/medscience_2.jpgHow do I insert an image? I was going to insert a picture of the new science building and comment that the black roof strikes me as a bad design choice. Silver would have been better. Actually, I think for a science building I would have gone more modern with the design. Lots of glass and metal being used on new college science buildings lately. But it does look better than all the other buildings in that area.

Parents probably care more about crime statistics than students. Who makes the decision?
Most don't realize that Vanderbilt is one of the most dangerous campuses in America and Vandy turns away students in droves. Perception is more important than reality sometimes. Mercer is a very safe campus. Macon has some areas where no student should ever visit . . . and most don't. Macon also has some of the most beautiful areas anywhere.
I believe that once parents and students spend some time at Mercer and in Macon, their charm becomes evident.

A modest house close to Belmont will sell for over $500k today. A similar house close to Tattnall Square will go for around $200k. And even less a few blocks back.
bear38 hit the nail on the head. Belmont has benefited from Nashville becoming a hot city. Macon is not a hot city and Mercer has had to overcome that . . . and has played an active role in changing it.
I am impressed with what both Belmont and Mercer have been able to accomplish.

"Most Improved" and "Up and Coming" colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/regional-universities-south/up-and-comingSome of Mercer's peer universities will always have an advantage due to endowment, location or history. Mercer has a campaign to increase its endowment (as do all schools). From what I understand, Mercer is willing to use its endowment to buy good students. Only by attracting good students will Mercer's reputation increase. Propaganda from the school indicates that the applications are up, as are the test scores of admitted students. I haven't seen the numbers, so I will hold off judgement. Unfortunately, Mercer's endowment is small when compared to Furman, for example. Location had become a hindrance to attracting students. Macon has a reputation for being a high crime city. Areas around the school were very sketchy. The school's efforts to change its community for the better has been very impressive. Those sketchy areas are being reclaimed. College Hill joggers - even mothers with children in strollers - now run at night without fear of being mugged. Downtown Macon is safer and more charming than it has been in 50 years. Belmont, for example, had a huge advantage in its rise in reputation due to being surrounded by a nice community in a popular city. Mercer recognized this disadvantage and worked to transform its community. The historical advantages that some of Mercer's peer institutions have will not be easy to overcome. It takes a long time to change people's perception.

Probably just spend the same as Furman does on the upkeep of the rose garden and lake I shudder to think at how much money at Furman goes into campus maintenance. Then again, when you are consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful campuses in the country, hard to say that is not a sound investment. That attention to detail has paid for itself over and over again, I imagine. Sure, Furman has a beautiful campus. But, Mercer has really improved the landscaping the past few years. The attention to detail is especially noteworthy when compared to some state universities. And reclaiming Tattnall Square Park is going to greatly improve visitor's perception of the appearance of the front of the university. I can't wait for the new fountain to be installed in Tattnall.
